Biafra : Tension As IPOB Die-hards Enters Afaraukwu Ibeku Amidst Military Presence

Some members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) reportedly entered Afaraukwu community on convoy breached both police and military checkpoints.

In viral video footage retrieved by SCANNEWS 24, the members popularly referred to as 'Lion Squad' comprising the Hardcore units within the group said they are waiting for any soldier to stop them, as reported by scannews24.

Nigerian government should allow this IGBO KING they killed to be buried.

Eastern governors who are mostly betrayers cum sycophants will not understand that it is the Igbo tradition that is being trampled.

No sane person will ever think that IPOB will boycott this burial even if heaven falls cos you don't beat a child and ask him not to cry.

Plus, whatever happens, you hardly see these hardcore ones die, only innocent people who might even be in their house.

Bandits just roasted 16 members of a family alive and the main security challenge the FG sees is the burial of a man they killed.

Any Igbo Man In The Law Enforcement Agencies Fighting Against IPOB Is A Fool - Senator Abaribe

“Any Igbo man in the law enforcement agencies fighting against IPOB is a fool”.

Any Igbo man in the law enforcement agencies fighting against IPOB is a fool”.

You are a police man, a soldier, or in any of the law enforcement agency and you are from the Southeast (precisely an IGBO), and the Federal government of Nigeria through your high command, gave you an order and said.

Go and kill those IPOB members (people agitating for freedom) in a peaceful way.
Because you want to secure your job, your profession and your career, you don’t want to loose your job, you don’t want want to loose your salary. Then, you followed and obeyed the last command.

You laid a siege against the freedom fighters, you brutalised them, you killed them. You killed your own people, your blood, your own clan, You obeyed the order at the detriment of your people’s life. Give your self a befitting name, My self I will call you a big FOOL.

Don’t enrich yourself at the detriment of your own people. Don’t be a hero by killing your family, Those that sent you to kill your own people will turn around to call you a fool, They will use you and dump you they can trust you never.

They can’t trust you because you betrayed your own people, how much more will you betray them? Don’t be fooled, Be your brother’s keeper, Save and protect your people, Don’t kill them for power, money, Or fame.

 IPOB PRESS RELEASE
03/12/2019

The unprovoked Nigeria police and army invasion of the home of our lawyer Barrister Ifeanyi Ejiofor barely four days after the painful burial of his senior brother is proof that those running Nigeria have descended into the abyss of iniquity from which they may never recover. Not even during the darkest days of Abacha's dictatorship did anyone witness such brazen intimidation of a legal counsel or the attempted assassination of a defence counsel in a high profile case.

It is the golden rule of every legal system under the Sun that defence counsels are not harrassed, intimidated or killed but it seems under this Fulani dictorship of Abba Kyari led cabal, nothing is sacrosanct. We don't expect the roundly docile and cowardly Nigeria Bar Association or their impotent and subdued National Judicial Council to rise up in condemnation of this contemptuous behaviour by Aso Rock in this latest attempt to kill Barrister Ifeanyi Ejiofor. This level of dictatorial impunity against the rule of law, judicial process and natural justice must not be condoned by any right thinking person.

In their usual predictable manner, the Fulani run Nigerian Police through their Public Relations Officer one Haruna Mohammed in Anambra State have issued a self-incriminating statement ladden with blatant lies, falsehood and deception. For the police to say there was a criminal complaint against Barrister Ejiofor bothering on assault and kidnapping four days after the funeral of his brother is  most stupid and laughable. Criminal complaint from who? Who did he kidnap, the body of his dead brother?
Who did he assault, Justice Binta Nyako?Where, when and how did he commit these crimes? The Nigeria Police never wrote to Barrister Ejiofor neither did they invite him to attend their station. This is a black lie. If they did, they should release the call log of the phone they claim they used in calling him. Does the Nigerian Police think the public is as daft as they are? The only reason for this unprovoked criminal invasion with deadly intent is to kill Barrister Ejiofor and to stop him from attending Federal High Court Abuja next month where he has all but defeated the Attorney General in the matter of Federal Government of Nigeria versus IPOB because Nigeria has no case against IPOB. The same strategy of invade and kill doctrine they deployed in Isiama-Afaraukwu the home of our leader on 14 September 2017 a month before he is due in court is what played out in Oraifite yesterday.
The Nigeria Police claim two of their officers were killed by IPOB members but there were four dead bodies in the burnt out police vehicle. What any investigative journalist worth his salt should ask is, who are the other two victims, where did they come from and what were they doing in a police van? Answers to these questions will reveal that Nigeria Police Command in Anambra State are unrepentant liars. The truth remains that Nigeria Police and Army went to the home of Barrister Ifeanyi Ejiofor with the sole purpose to kill him before next month's court date as is now their tradition. On getting there they opened fire on unarmed civilians as usual and the two men that came out of the house were shot dead instantly. The police carried their dead and dying bodies into their van to conceal evidence and drove off. These are facts backed by evidence Anambra Police cannot deny.

After killing two unarmed and innocent civilians, before they left the police doused Barrister Ejiofor's home with petrol and set it on fire. This was the reality yesterday in Oraifite Anambra State. It was the careleseness of the police in handling the petrol they used to drench Barrister Ejiofor's home and nearby businesses before setting them on fire that trailed back and led to the fire that gutted their van.

It is on record that IPOB remains a peaceful movement therefore this latest desperate attempt by this lying Fulani controlled Nigeria Police to equate our activities with their home-grown Miyetti Allah (Fulani herdsmen) terrorist organisation is a waste of time.

Former Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu has apologised to the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) as he declared his full support to Biafra agitation.

Ekweremadu, after consolidating power as the political leader of the entire Biafran area, betrayed and dumped the IPOB on the altar of political opportunism. That Judas piece was published on August 16, 2017.

Ekweremadu and Saraki would have been jailed by 2016, if not for opposition from the IPOB organization worldwide.
Said differently, Nnamdi Kanu sacrificed his freedom and the lives of many Biafran activists, so that Ike Ekweremadu could remain as the Deputy Senate President under Buhari.

The result has been blackmail, political persecution, loss of many innocent lives and, by consequence, the protest in Nuremberg, Germany, where the senator was flogged naked.

Ike Ekweremadu leave the IPOB members in a dark for so long due to his selfish political interest, after which he paid the price of his wickedness in Germany where he was flogged naked and disgraced.

Now the senator has learnt his lesson and he has come to reunited with IPOB to fully support Biafra freedom.

Ekweremadu apologised to all IPOB members for disappointed them and he has come to correct his deed for the push of Biafra freedom.

The Indigenous people of Biafra, IPOB (Biafra Land) has finally reacted to the demise of Nnamdi Kanu’s mother, Lolo Ugoeze Sally Nmeme Okwu-Kanu who reportedly passed away on 30th August, 2019.

In a statement signed by Biafra Land National Secretary, Egwuatu Chukwuka revealed how she passed through distressful moments in the course of the struggle for the restoration of the sovereign nation of Biafra.

Statement Read:

The entire family of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) in Biafraland, do hereby express our condolences to the family of His Royal Majesty (HRM), Sir Eze Israel Okwu-Kanu and most essentially, to the King himself (Egwu-Ukwu II of Afara-Ukwu), on the demise of a true mother and wife, Lolo Ugoeze Sally Nmeme Okwu-Kanu, who passed away on Friday 30th August 2019.

We cannot honestly hold back our tears since the shocking announcement of the death of mama. We quite understand too well how she passed through distressful moments in the course of the struggle for the restoration of the sovereign nation of Biafra. Inclusive is the criminal Nigerian military expedition code-named “Operation Python Dance”, that was brought to the family compound. It takes a woman of exceptional clout to play the role of a mother but it takes an even more exceptional and courageous mother to beget and nurture a son with rare mandate of God in the mold of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. Mom, you truely were a representation of such a unique character and we miss you greatly.

The enormous sacrifices and brevity exhibited during the life of late Lolo Ugoeze Sally Okwu-Kanu, contributed immensely to the Biafra restoration struggle which will remain as memorials to generations of Biafrans unto the end of time. That is the womb that gave birth to the messiah of our time, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the exceptionally courageous, intelligent, dependable and resilient leader of IPOB family, globally. Your type mom, is very rare to find and IPOB is not mistaking to say that you really were.

The Okwu-Kanu family must understand that late Lolo Ugoeze Sally, fully and selflessly impressed us variously. We feel inspired by her contributions and really aspire to leave behind us, such an amazing legacy as she did. Biafrans and particularly the entire IPOB family shall continue to run with the baton of freedom she has handed over to us, to ensure that the benefit of her price is immortalized.

Operation Python Dance IV, Fight Insecurity In The North - IPOB Tackles Military

Operation Python Dance IV, Fight Insecurity In The North - IPOB Tackles Military

MASTER REPORTERS GLOBAL NEWS

Breaking the news from around the globe.

The global family of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) wish to advice the Fulani dominated military heirachy in Nigeria led by Tukur Buratai that constant harrassment and killing of innocent civilians in the East will not make up for their failure to deal with insurgency and terrorism ravaging the North where they come from. Any reasonable society would have noticed by now that these meaningless military exercises designed to torment civil society is a tactical diversion to cover up the failures of the Nigeria Army in tackling Fulani terrorism. The plan is to give the world the misleading impression that insecurity is affecting every part of Nigeria and Biafraland when that is not the case.

Announcing countless and meaningless military operations within the borders of Nigeria is indicative that this army headed by Buratai are cowards and instruments of suppression and intimidation. Civilised democratic countries set up their armies to fight external enemies and protect their borders but in Africa as with all developmentally backward parts of the world, national armies are being used to oppress the civilian population of which Nigeria is a prime example.

Buratai’s cowardly and incompetent army of occupation should be reminded that all they have succeeded in doing is turning the Nigerian military into a laughing stock because announcing exotically named military operation after military operation within a civilian space is making it appear more like a television drama series than a serious initiative. They should stop fooling themselves and reveal the motive behind these countless invasions of Biafraland which is to aid Fulani terror herdsmen acquire and consolidate farm lands forcibly taken from non-Fulani communities in the south. The world must know that we are seriously engaging these band of terrorists in Ebonyi State where they continue to enjoy protection and help from their fellow Fulani terrorists in uniform in their quest to Islamise Ebonyi State and wider Biafra with the help of the state governor Dave Umahi.

Not long ago, earlier this year, Operation Python Dance 3 was launched by this same bumbling and roundly incompetent Buratai, which ended up accomplishing nothing in terms of their stated aim of eradicating IPOB using military force. All they succeeded in achieving is raping of young women, extortion and mindless thuggery against defenceless citizens. It has now been firmly established that Nigeria government and her security forces especially the murderous Fulani soldiers in Nigerian Army uniform cleverly designed these never ending episodes of military action against innocent civilians to ensure they continue the elimination of Biafran youths with the blessing of South East governors and Ohaneze Ndigbo. This is the intention behind this ongoing Operation Python Dance 4 and Operation Crocodile Smile in Biafraland.

In 2017 this same Nigerian Army with active connivance of South East governors and Ohaneze Ndigbo used Operation Python Dance 2 as cover to attmpt the assassination of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and elimination of hundreds of Biafrans of which 28 gallant men fell at Isiama-Afaraukwu Umuahia in Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s compound during the invasion.

At a time when Nigerian army is being roundly defeated on all fronts by Boko Haram, culminating in some soldiers fleeing from battle and recourse to Saudi spirituality as a means of combating their self made insurgency, Fulani caliphate have instead chosen to display the bravery of their army against unarmed innocent civilians in Biafraland.

It important that Biafrans know that this recent Operation Python Dance 4 in Biafraland is the brainchild of the Fulani caliphate and their slaves in Igboland Dave Umahi, Nnia Nwodo with the usual brigade of Efulefus that will stop at nothing to ensure that Biafraland is reduced to another vassal colony of the caliphate like Illorin the same way Ukpabi Asika did before them. These quislings know their days are numbered and as with every traitor in history, they must face their fate at the right time. We will never forgive nor pardon them.

In the north their governors are busy proudly and openly negotiating with known killers, bandits and terrorist but in Biafraland Dave Umahi, Willie Obiano, Okezie Ikpeazu and Nnia Nwodo are busy colluding with northern military officers to kill their own people.

There is no insecurity in Biafraland save for those introduced by land grabbing Fulani terror herdsmen, aided and abated by South East governors.

We know Nigerian military have no shame and will continue to flex their muscle against unarmed peaceful civilians while running away from engaging Boko Haram in battle in the north. Boko Haram are rampaging and killing lives in the north. There are overcrowded IDP camps and abandoned villages in the Arewa core north but the senseless Nigerian army are in Biafraland extorting money from motorists and committing all manner of unspeakable atrocities.

We IPOB are not relenting in our exposure of the inadequacies and unconscionable actions of this Buratai led Nigerian army until the world is firmly aware of what obtains in Nigeria. Exposing and making sure the whole world knows about the evil plans of Nigerian government and her security agencies against the people of Biafra is our responsibilty and that we shall continue to do.

There is peace in Biafraland except for where Fulani terror herdsmen are wreaking havoc in Ebonyi State. It is therefore unacceptable that Nigerian army should be running around in armoured vehicles and tormenting innocent civilians when they should be combating insecurity in core Arewa North. What exists in Nigeria is a Fulani Islamic army of occupation not a national army by any stretch of the immagination. It is therefore the duty of the masses to resist them as we IPOB are doing.

Buhari Must Remove The Terrorist Tag On IPOB - Igbo Group Tells UN

Buhari Must Remove The Terrorist Tag On IPOB - Igbo Group Tells UN

MASTER REPORTERS GLOBAL NEWS

Breaking the news from around the globe.

An Igbo group, Voice from the East (VEAST), yesterday in Enugu pleaded with the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) to use the opportunity of its ongoing meeting in the United States of America (USA) to mount pressure of President Muhammadu Buhari to remove the terrorist tag on the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

The group, in a statement signed by its convener, Comrade Kindness Jonah, stated that the invitation extended to the IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, by the European Parliament, is evident that the group is championing self-determination.

“We have been inundated with the outcome of the invitation of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu to address the European Parliament on the issue of Biafra. Many have expressed reservations on the invitation by the body on somebody that the Nigerian Government tagged ‘a terrorist’.

VEAST pointed out that the terrorist tag on IPOB by Buhari–led government when juxtaposed with the invitation and Nkanu’s landmark address had been “rubbished”.

Commenting further, Jonah queried: “How can a leader of a terrorist ‘group’ be invited to address such a body like the European Parliament, yet, the Nigerian government calls it a terrorist group?

Speaking sarcastically, he said: “IPOB is a terrorist group, but European Parliament invited it; killer herdsmen are aberrantly killing but are not terrorist group, yet, they could not be invited, and Boko Haram, a ‘co- terrorist group’ with IPOB could not be invited.

“Nigeria by this episodic invitation has been pragmatically presented as a Hobbesian state and theatre of absurdities. These two ideologies are irreconcilable.”

As if invitation by European Parliament was not enough, stressed Comrade Jonah, United Nations Special Committee of the General Assembly has invited Nnamdi Kanu, the first Nigerian to be so honoured, to speak on Biafra issues as did the European Parliament, the group claimed.

“VEAST is, therefore, calling on UN to prevail on President Muhammadu Bihari to remove the terrorist tag on IPOB and dialogue with the group like they are doing with bandits, killer herdsmen and kidnappers in the North,” he said.

The group said it has come to the firm conclusion that “semantics of a religious order and not stubborn facts was squarely responsible for the fiendish tag of a terrorist group on IPOB by the government”.

Comrade Jonah called on the Federal Government to unconditionally cancel the unfounded terrorist tag on IPOB and perfectly restructure Nigeria if it ever thought of stopping Biafra agitation.

We Know That Later IPOB Will Embrace 2023 Igbo Presidency, Just Watch And See - Ohanaeze Youths

MASTER REPORTERS GLOBAL NEWS

Breaking the news from around the globe.

Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, President General, and Mazi Okwu Nnabuike, Secretary-General, of Ohanaeze Youths, opined that prominent statesmen and leaders are in support of the project, advising IPOB to tag along for the unity of Igbo.

“Prominent statesmen and leaders across-the-board had pledged support for 2023 Igbo Presidency. This shows that after the inauguration of 2023 National Committee on Igbo Presidency project by November 1st 2019, we will have more Nigerians to support the Igbo.

“We appreciate the Afenifere leader Pa Ayo Adebayo, the Ijaw leader Pa Edwin Clark, Alhaji Balarabe Musa, Maj-Gen Ishola Williams, PDP BOT member, Chief Ebenezer Babatope, and millions of Nigerian Youths, for their collective bargaining for a Nigerian President of Igbo stock in 2023.

“We are pursuing the 2023 Igbo Presidency project from the master plan designed by late Chuba Okadigbo in 2003, before he became the then running mate to President Muhammadu Buhari in defunct ANPP.

“In this cause Buhari assured Igbo in 2003 in Umuahia, that he was destined to hand over power to an Igbo Man. 20 years after by 2023, he will surely do that.

“IPOB is projecting the 2023 Igbo Presidency project unknowingly and we should desist from self-destructive tendencies.

We know that IPOB will support the 2023 Igbo Presidency project, just like they supported the 2019 election after its initial refusal, changing from” no referendum, no election” slogan, to ” it’s Done and Dusted.

“When the chips are down, IPOB will lead the Igbo Presidency project as a means of negotiation and compensation.

“We are urging respected Igbo leaders to guide the 2023 Igbo Presidency project. Igbo youths are fully in charge, with huge funds to execute the assignment”.

Don't Ever Use IPOB To Threaten The North - ACF Tells Ezeife

MASTER REPORTERS GLOBAL NEWS

Breaking the news from around the globe.

The Secretary-General of the Arewa Consultative Forum, Mr Anthony Sani, has warned that using the Indigenous People of Biafra to threaten the North over the 2023 presidency will not help the cause of the Igbo to produce the President when the time comes.

Referring to a statement credited to a former Governor of Anambra State, Dr Chukwuemeka Ezeife, in an interview with a national newspaper (not The PUNCH) where the elder statesman noted that Igbo people might embrace IPOB if denied the presidency in 2023, the ACF scribe argued that using IPOB to blackmail the region was unfair.

According to Sani, in an interview with Sunday PUNCH, democracy is a contest of ideas and reasons and not a matter of threats and intimidation.

He said, “I have said democracy is a contest of ideas and reasons, and not by threats and intimidation that have no place in multiparty democracy. The presidency is secured in multiparty democracy through persuasions that seek to break barriers and build bridges. It is not obtained through affirmative action.

“I do not believe Ezeife could say what was reported. This is because he is too intelligent not to know that Nigeria practises multiparty democracy which allows political parties to present their candidates from any zone as part of their winning game plans.

“Ezeife also knows that there is no national consensus on rotation, power shift or zoning that is binding on political parties. That may explain why President Muhammadu Buhari contested with President Olusegun Obasanjo in 2003 despite the deliberate concession of the presidency to the South-West because of Chief (M.K.O.) Abiola. That is also why former President Goodluck Jonathan contested with Buhari in 2011 and 2015.

“If ex-President Jonathan had won in 2015, the South would have held sway for over 16 years in the nascent democracy. You may also note that in 2019, presidential candidates emerged from both the North and the South. What is more, democracy is a contest of ideas and reasons and not a matter of threat and intimidation.

“Worst of all, the feisty doctor is reported as using IPOB to blackmail the nation. This is most unfair, especially when regard is paid to the fact that the threats can convey an avoidable impression that some elders of the South-East still nurse some desire to split the country through IPOB.”

But in an interview with Sunday PUNCH, Ezeife said the South-East would embrace persuasion to achieve its aspiration, adding that discussions were already ongoing with some groups in all parts of the country to achieve their aspiration.

“We are going to lobby every group; we would lobby from North to South, East to West. Some of us have started; one Revd. Obiora is foremost in this, he has started and he is in touch with some groups already. If we are not able to organise ourselves and 20 Igbo people come out to contest for the presidency, that will be our fault. But we want to ensure that we get in touch with the political players to organise themselves and ensure that they present themselves for Nigerians to see,” he said.

However, the President-General of the Ohanaeze Youth Council, Okechukwu Isiguzoro, said all groups in the South-East would work to achieve the 2023 aspirations, adding that plans were underway to approach the two leading political parties as well.

“We will approach both major parties as platforms to actualise the Igbo 2023 presidency project. We would remind both the All Progressives Congress and Peoples Democratic Party to first respect the gentleman agreement by zoning the party ticket to South, and then persuade the stakeholders in the South-South, South-West, to allow South-East to take a shot at the presidency.

The United States has declared its support to people fighting for democracy and their inalienable Human Rights across the globe to mark the International Day of Democracy.

The US Secretary of State, Micheal R. Pompeo said in a press statement that the government is committed to supporting individual liberty and human dignity through a vibrant, diverse and independent civil society.

He said the US is deeply concerned in the shrinking civic space of governments around the globe in areas of policies that impose undue restrictions on the rights to freedom of association, peaceful assembly, expression, religion or belief and proliferation of laws.

“While the United States commends governments that have undertaken reforms to allow civil society to thrive, we remain deeply concerned by the global trend of shrinking civic space. Concerning trends include a proliferation of laws and policies that impose undue restrictions on the rights to freedom of association, peaceful assembly, expression, and religion or belief.

IPOB Is Creating Enemies To South East That Will Make 2023 Igbo Presidency Very Difficult - Balarabe Musa

MASTER REPORTERS GLOBAL NEWS

Breaking the news from around the globe.

Balarabe Musa, Chairman, Board of Trustees of the Peoples Redemption Party, PRP, has hinted that the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, is creating enemies for the South East in their push for 2023 presidency.

Musa insisted that IPOB was making it difficult for an Igbo presidency to emerge in 2023.

He said this in response to the call for zoning of the presidency to the South East in 2023.

In a statement, Musa said: “IPOB are now breeding enemies for the South East. We are campaigning for the presidency to go to the South East, even though zoning was introduced by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that we are opposed to.

“It is good for us as a country because it gives every person and area a sense of belonging.

“So we support the zoning and we are saying the presidency should go to the South East and we have our reason. Now, they are making our job even more difficult and they are not helping even the people in the South East .”

According to Musa: “IPOB is wrong to have attacked the former deputy president of the Senate. Even though we are opposed to them because they are a separatist organisation, because they are an organisation that wants to separate NIGERIA, but we also have sympathy for them because they have genuine grievances.

“They are now spoiling the little sympathy they have by doing what they did. It is uncalled for, the person they attacked is an individual, not an organisation. I think it’s wrong for them to have done so.

“They are also making it difficult for us. Even though we are opposed to them as a separatist group, we have sympathy for them because of their grievances.

“But this mindless violence is making them to lose sympathy. I expect them to be concerned with organisations, not individuals; they should engage individuals with reasons. They should stop this violence.”

Nigeria in Crisis

There is a crisis in Nigeria. The Nigerian State has never been at peace with itself and recent events
amplify this pending emergency.

And, as has been the case since independence from Britain in 1960, Biafrans are the easy target of the
lack of a credible Nigerian state. Nigeria governs without the consent of all within its borders. Nigeria claims to be ruled by law, but in effect, there is a de facto lawlessness in Nigeria.

Nigeria’s epidemic of violence flowing from the North is well documented. In 2014 the Global Terrorism Index judged Fulani militants to be the fourth most deadly terror group in the world, behind Boko Haram, Isis, and the Taliban.

Lawlessness is always one step ahead of the Government. In response, the Government, when it is
convenient for it to do so, attempts to give a veneer of legality to the lawlessness. Recent proposed land reforms across Nigeria do just that. The Fulani herders from the North are increasingly encroaching on the settled farmers of the South/South East. This includes Biafra. As Amnesty International has reported, there were more than 2,000 deaths in 2018 linked to this land crisis. Instead of seeking to address the violence, the Government has sought to condone it and legitimise the land grab.

There is an underlying problem in the North which has to do with climate change and encroaching
desertification due to overgrazing and deforestation. This has drawn Fulani herdsmen further south and led to violence against Biafran farmers seeking to defend their land and crops. The fertile farming lands of Biafra are very attractive to the Fulani.

To address this land crisis, the Government, the President of which is Fulani, sought to establish the
RUGA scheme (an acronym for Rural Grazing Area – or is it, as some suggest, a Fulani word?) whereby Fulani herders could officially move into areas and absorb land as part of a Government co-ordinated programme across Nigeria.

Is this an attempt to develop settled land practices for the Fulani, or, as is the experience of Biafrans, is the drive behind RUGA an attempt to Fulanise (or Islamise) Biafraland and force out Biafrans? Biafrans who stand up to the Fulani are killed. Because of the uproar across Nigeria, the RUGA settlement programme has been suspended, but the National Livestock Transformation Plan (NLTP) remains in place. This programme advocates ranching. How different is it from RUGA? For Biafrans the effect is the same. They are forced from their land and will be killed if they do not make way for the Fulani.

Nigeria: The Problem, Not the Solution

Nigeria has always been a fiction. The state we now know as Nigeria was created for British
administrative and colonial convenience in 1914. An audacious move by the British, but no surprises in Empire. Britain’s Nigeria drew together disparate people into one entity.

To oversimplify, to the North are the Muslims. Two ethnic groups dominate the North, the Hausa and
Fulani. The Fulani are now in the ascendency. One hundred years ago these were semi-nomadic,
pastoral people. Many Fulani continues to live as herders. The South is mainly Christian and in the South East there is also a vibrant Jewish tradition. The rural communities in the South/South East tend to be settled, farmers. The principal ethnic group in the South is the Yoruba.

The South East is the region that makes up Biafraland or Biafra. There is a coherence to Biafra. Its
western border is the River Niger and it incorporates most of the Niger delta. The eastern border is
Cameroon. To the west, across the Niger, are the Yoruba. In the north are the Muslim people. Despite
colonisation and being forcibly absorbed into Nigeria, Biafrans are defined by common values and a
shared sense of identity. Biafrans don’t all speak the same language. Many Biafrans are Igbo speakers. Other Biafrans speak Urhobo-Isoko, Ijaw-Epie-Ogbia, Ogoni, Efik, Annang, Eket-, Oron-Ibibio, Ogoja, Ejagham, Igala, Idoma, Ibani, and Igbanke among others.

To put Biafra in its Nigerian geo-political context, Biafraland is made up of the following Provinces:
Rivers Province, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Ebonyi, Imo, Anambra, Abia, Enugu, Bayelsa and Delta. Fulani herdsman have shown great interest in those provinces that form the central belt of Biafra, such as Enugu.

The Biafran War (1967-1970)

With independence, the persecution of Biafrans started. One colonial master was replaced by another,
although, and without endorsing British rule, Biafrans fared better under the British than they have
under Nigerian dominance.

First, the Biafrans who had been transplanted to the North by the British were massacred. Those that
survived fled back to Biafra. The oppression and intimidation did not cease. In 1967, Biafra was left with no choice but to proclaim independence. Nigeria declared war.

Biafra didn’t stand a chance. The conflict turned the Cold War on its head. The Soviet Union and Britain actively supported Nigeria. “Biafra, Britain’s Shame” was how many described the UK position. French compassion was gratefully received but it could do little to protect the fledgling state. America’s neutrality in effect backed Nigeria. China was silent. The UN was hopeless. Biafra was doomed. Starved into submission, after three years the Biafrans surrendered. At least 2 million Biafrans perished.

The atrocities, war crimes and crimes against humanity committed against Biafra during the Biafran War remain unaccounted for. Was it an attempt at genocide? Biafrans were considered an existential threat to the state. The killings were indiscriminate. All Biafrans were targeted.

Biafra Subjugated

After the war, Biafrans slowly rebuilt their world. But, as far as Nigeria was concerned, they were not
and never had been Biafrans. They were Nigerians from the South East or Igbo-speaking Nigerians. The Biafran War was airbrushed out of the Nigerian consciousness. Biafrans could only whisper about their loss. Joining the global Biafran diaspora was one option for those who could get out. Others remained in Biafraland, their Biafran identity amongst themselves, undiminished.

Nigeria continues to prioritise crushing assertions of Biafran identity. Even peacefully commemorating the War risks arrest, detention, prohibited ill-treatment or being shot.

In recent years the Nigerian state authorities have conducted three orchestrated campaigns against
Biafrans. The three Operation Python Dance campaigns have been battles against Biafrans. The first
campaign was in 2016, the second in 2017 and the third is ongoing. They are designed to undermine
calls for Biafran self-determination. Operation Python Dance campaigns intimidate. Serious and systemic human rights violations are carried out by state forces with impunity.

A Voice for Biafrans: The Indigenous People of Biafra

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) is the main organisation which represents all peoples who
consider themselves to be Biafran. IPOB has one principal purpose, IPOB calls for the recognition of the Biafran people’s right to self-determination. IPOB pursues the right to self-determination for Biafrans without the use of force. IPOB upholds human rights. IPOB rejects violence.

The Nigerian authorities target organisations calling for Biafran self-determination, most notably IPOB. Being found with IPOB symbols can result in an individual being disappeared. Arrest is inevitable. And now that IPOB has been proscribed, prison sentences are harsh.

The IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, has been targeted, harassed and persecuted by the authorities. He has been unlawfully detained, subjected to prohibited ill-treatment and unfair trials. It is a miracle that he’s alive. Following an attack on his home, he was forced into involuntary exile. Many of those defending him were killed or disappeared. There is still a warrant out for his arrest.

Biafrans, supported by IPOB, respond cannily to these targeted attacks organising stay-at-home days
each 30th May, the day Biafra declared independence in 1967. No one in Biafraland goes to work that
day and the economy, along with everything else, grinds to a halt. As Nigeria denies the human rights of Biafrans, the Biafrans become more skilled in honing those rights. IPOB remains committed to non-violent campaigning.

A Right to Self-Determination for Biafra

International law is clear in relation to self-determination. Where there is a credible claim for self-
determination the only way to resolve the issue is by holding a referendum which complies with
international standards. IPOB is calling for a referendum. It is for that reason the Nigerian authorities
have sought to brand IPOB as a terrorist organisation. The EU, the UK and the US have all rejected the labeling of IPOB as a terrorist group. They know that IPOB seeks only to uphold human rights.

Impunity for Northerners?

It is not only the direct attacks on Biafrans by the Nigerian state that perpetuate the intimidation and
torment of Biafrans. Nigeria’s policies of accommodating Northerners have a direct impact on Biafrans. No different to 1967, Northerners act with impunity in Biafraland.

The current land crisis in Biafra caused by Fulani herders is just one more chapter of brutality facing the Biafran people carried out with the tacit support of the Nigerian state. Despite the apparent suspension of RUGA, Northerners continue to threaten Southerners, including Biafrans. They will have no peace if Fulanis are not allowed to establish the RUGA scheme, the Fulani say.

This land crisis throws into sharp relief Nigeria’s crisis. The Government of Nigeria is, to all intents and purposes, giving land to Fulani herders from the North which belongs to Biafran farmers. These are the same Biafrans who legitimately claim their right to self-determination.

Biafran farmers live in fear. The farmers of Ebonyi and Enugu are particularly affected. This torment
must end. Biafra is entitled to resolve its own future and security.

Why Self-Determination Matters

IPOB has always called for creative solutions to recognise Biafrans’ right to self-determination. However, what is clear is that the existing model of the Nigerian constitution is fatally flawed. It continues to cause harm to all within the jurisdiction and it is unsustainable.

Nigeria may once have worked for the British as a colonial administration. It has never worked as an
independent state. To this extent, it is a failed state. Nigeria is an artificial vehicle which buttresses those with power, or aspirations for power. As there is no legitimacy to the state of Nigeria, there is no rule of law. Law is used as a tool of coercion by the authorities to crush opposition. Others, such as the Fulani herders, simply ignore the law and act with impunity.

Biafra: Africa’s Future

Biafran pleas for self-determination are ignored by the international community. Why are Biafran voices not heard? Resolving Biafra’s legitimate claim for self-determination will resolve Nigeria’s crisis. Biafra is a forgotten global crisis. IPOB believes that by resolving Biafra’s right to self-determination, Africa’s
peaceful future will be revealed. To that extent, Biafra is Africa’s future. The effects of Nigeria’s
permanent state of conflict resonates across the continent.

IPOB Fighting For What Rightfully Belongs To Them, They Are Not Rebels - Elder Opadokun

MASTER REPORTERS GLOBAL NEWS

Breaking the news from around the globe.

Lagos – Chief Ayo Opadokun, elder statesman and Secretary-General of the National Democratic Coalition (NADECO) has urged the Federal Government to respond favourably to the agitation of the members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) so as avoid distracting the government.

Speaking in a chat with Daily Independent on activities of the group when President Muhammadu Buhari travelled to Japan for Seventh Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD7), Opadokun said while he didn’t support the method employed by IPOB in pressing home their demands, the federal government should grant them audience and address the issues so as to avoid further distractions.

“To people in government, IPOB members are rebels but to those who are fighting for self-determination, they are doing something that is totally acceptable.  Nobody gives you your right anywhere in the world, you must fight for it every day”.

“If that is one of the ways by which they could do so, the Nigerian government should do what is right and respond favourably if they don’t want an unnecessary distraction. I may not support the method employed by IPOB because there may be other better means with which they can press home their demands” he said.
