Why stress can make you go grey

Why stress can make you go grey
Sometimes an evolutionary response does us a disservice.

Don’t stress. It will only make things worse.

By Amelia Nichele

Science can’t yet stop stress turning your hair grey, but it can at least explain how it happens – if that’s any consolation.

Stress activates nerves that are part of the fight-or-flight response, causing permanent damage to pigment regenerating stem cells in hair follicles, according to a team from Harvard University in the US.

"Everyone has an anecdote to share about how stress affects their body, particularly in their skin and hair – the only tissues we can see from the outside," says senior author Ya-Chieh Hsu. "We wanted to understand if this connection is true, and if so, how stress leads to changes in diverse tissues.

“Hair pigmentation is such an accessible and tractable system to start with – and besides, we were genuinely curious to see if stress indeed leads to hair greying."

The work with mice – described in a paper in the journal Nature – wasn’t straightforward.

At first, the researchers suspected that stress triggers an immune attack on pigment-producing cells. This was discounted, however, when mice without immune cells still showed greying hair.

A series of dead-ends eventually led them to the sympathetic nerve system.

BIOLOGY

Sympathetic nerves branch out into each hair follicle. When under stress, they release the chemical norepinephrine, which is taken up by nearby pigment-regenerating stem cells.

The norepinephrine causes the stem cells to activate excessively, with all the cells converting into pigment-producing cells.

"After just a few days, all of the pigment-regenerating stem cells were lost. Once they're gone, you can't regenerate pigment anymore. The damage is permanent,” Hsu says.

The finding highlights the negative side effects of an otherwise protective evolutionary response, the researchers say.

"Acute stress, particularly the fight-or-flight response, has been traditionally viewed to be beneficial for an animal's survival. But in this case, acute stress causes permanent depletion of stem cells," says lead author Bing Zhang.

Hsu, Zhang and colleagues suggest their research is a step towards developing ways to block the effects of stress in the future.

“By understanding precisely how stress affects stem cells that regenerate pigment, we’ve laid the groundwork for understanding how stress affects other tissues and organs in the body,” Hsu says.

“Understanding how tissues change under stress is the first critical step towards eventual treatment that can halt or revert the detrimental impact of stress. We still have a lot to learn in this area."

Breaking News : Federal Govt To Indefinitely Close Enugu Airport

MASTER REPORTERS GLOBAL NEWS...

Breaking the news from around the globe.

Maureen Ihua-Maduenyi

The Federal Government has said it plans to close the runway at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu for major repairs and works on the airfield.

The closure will become effective from midnight of August 24, 2019 but no date has been given for the reopening.

The General Manager, Corporate Affairs of Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, Mrs Henrietta Yakubu, said on Saturday that the aim was to resolve the existing safety and security concerns to flight operations.

“A date to reopen the runway will be communicated in due course,” she said.

The immediate past Minister of State of Aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika, had said in May that the Federal Government planned to shut down the airport.

Some of the reasons he gave included the airport’s bad runway and landing aids, and the presence of a market nearby which attracts birds and had led to constant bird strikes on aircraft.

The minister had also said the state radio mast was wrongly placed and was directly facing the runway.

The closure of the airport is expected to affect Ethiopian Airlines’ three to four flights weekly into the city as well as Air Peace’s domestic flight. Arik suspended flight operations to the airport a few months ago.

The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Air Peace, Mr Allen Onyema, while commending the Federal Government for the decision to close the airport, said the runway had given the airline and other stakeholders serious safety concerns.

We Must Reduce The Rate Of Going To Abroad For Medical Treatment - Buhari

MASTER REPORTERS GLOBAL NEWS

Breaking the news from around the globe.

President Muhammadu Buhari’s led-administration has raised concern on Nigerians going for medical treatment abroad, said Nigeria must reduce its dependence on medical treatment abroad.

The President, who said this on Thursday, in Daura, Katsina State, , assured that the efforts by the Federal Government will be redoubled to improve health services, facilities and equipment in the country.

He said this while commissioning Nigerian Air Force Reference Hospital in Daura.

Buhari said the Federal Government had, in the last four years, invested resources in the health sector, with increased budgetary allocation moving from N259 billion in 2015 to over N340 billion in 2018.

In his words: “Accordingly, significant strides have been made to life expectancy and reduced some of the killer diseases associated with child and maternal mortality to less than 70 deaths per 100, 000 live births by the year 2030, as planned in the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

“Despite this, more efforts are needed to fully eradicate a wide range of diseases and many persistent and emerging health issues in our society,’’ he said.

While advising that health services in the rural areas deserved more attention he said that dependence on foreign countries for medical treatment can be reduced by turning around the health sector in the country.

“To achieve this, we must now redouble efforts to focus on providing more efficient funding of the health sector, improve sanitation and hygiene, and increase access to medical care in the rural areas in order to save lives of millions of Nigerians.

“There is therefore no more auspicious time to commission this Reference Hospital than now,’’ he added.

President Buhari commended the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar for situating the Reference Hospital, with state-of-art medical equipment for radio-diagnosis, cancer screening, dialysis, laboratory diagnosis and research, in Daura to serve the aligning states and communities.

“This hospital will minimise the need for people in these areas to travel to Kano, Kaduna, Abuja or even overseas to receive medical treatment.

“I urge you to maintain the highest standard and quality of services the military is known for in attending to patients and the host community. Maintenance is central to efficiency and satisfactory service delivery,’’ the President said.

Nigeria Will Continue To Remain As One Indivisible Country - Buhari Assures Nigerians As He Meets NYSC Members

MASTER REPORTERS GLOBAL NEWS

Breaking the news from around the globe.

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members who met with President Muhammadu Buhari, in Katsina State, in Daura on Sunday, has been challenged to use their education and privilege of visiting different parts of the country to unite Nigerians.

While receiving corps members at his country home in Daura during the Eid el-Kabir Sallah celebration, alongside the President of Republic of Guinea, Prof. Alfa Conde, Buhari said the primary focus of the NYSC is to expose graduates to the beauty and diversity of the country, and return to their states or any part of the country to share their experiences.

The All Progressive Congress leader charged them to always emphasize the common values of peaceful co-existence, kindness and hospitality that cut across all cultures and religion in Nigeria.

He further noted that Nigeria depends on past and serving youth corps members to bridge the country, since they have the first-hand experience of living with different ethnic groups in various parts of the country, studying their traditions and cultures, and enjoying hospitality, which underpins every community in Nigeria.

In his words: “From Lagos, Port Harcourt and other parts of the country, you are at the end of the country. This posting will make you know this place, Daura, and you can disabuse the minds of those who are not educated about the other side of the country.

“It is only the NYSC that is merging us together and of course, the police and soldiers,” he said.

President Buhari also noted that in every meeting with former Head of State, Gen. Yakubu Gowon, who initiated the programme in 1973 to promote unity and understanding among Nigerians, he always remembers to appreciate the ingenuity of the programme and need for continuity.

Buhari, in his kind gesture, donated two cows and ten bags of rice to the corps members, and some money, while the President of Republic of Guinea also complemented with two cows.

Breaking: Kaduna State Files Another Fresh Suit Against The Planned Trip Of EL-Zakzaky And Wife To India For Medical Treatment

MASTER REPORTERS GLOBAL NEWS ...

By Muhammad Sabiu - Kaduna

The Kaduna State government has filed fresh suit before the state High Court against the planned trip of the leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN), Sheikh Ibrahim El-Zakzaky and his wife, Zeenat, to India to seek medical attention.

This was disclosed in a statement issued and signed by the state commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Mr Samuel Aruwan, on Wednesday.

According to the statement, the government has asked the Foreign Affairs Ministry to confirm from Medanta Hospital, India, whether it has given  El-Zakzaky and wife appointments to visit the hospital and check all diplomatic arrangements regarding the trip.

The statement also asked each of the defendants to make an undertaking that they will come back to face their trial adding that the defendants shall bear the cost of their travelling, medication and living while in India.

Also, the statement said El-Zakazky and his wife should produce two reliable persons as sureties, one being a first-class Emir/chief or a very prominent person in Kaduna who will be present whenever they are needed in court, adding that the Federal government should obtain a guarantee from the Indian government that they will not entertain anything like political asylum from El-Zakzaky or any third party.

The full statement reads: “Malam Ibrahim El-Zakzaky is facing criminal trial before the Kaduna High Court on charges filed in April 2018. The Kaduna State Government is prosecuting Malam Ibrahim El-Zakzaky on an eight-count charge, including culpable homicide punishable with death.

“Himself and his wife are the first and second defendants in the State versus Malam Ibrahim El-Zakzaky and Another (charge no. KDH/KAD/60c/2018), and his plea was taken on 2nd August 2018.

“His application for bail was refused on 4th October 2018, and he has since remained in the lawful custody of the state, and not in unlawful detention as being wrongly disseminated.

“On Monday, 5th August 2019, the Kaduna High Court granted an application for medical leave filed by Mr El-Zakzaky and his wife, Mrs Zeenah Ibrahim. The court specifically said it was granting the two defendants ‘leave to travel out of Nigeria for urgent medical treatment at Medanta Hospital, India, under strict supervision of the respondent and to return to Nigeria (for the continuation of trial) as soon as they are discharged from the hospital.”

“The Kaduna State Government respects the right of anyone to seek treatment anywhere in the world, even for malaria or a common cold, so long as they are paying for it.

“But in the case of persons facing trial for serious offences, necessary safeguards are required to ensure that such persons do not become fugitives from justice or frustrate trial by claiming asylum or the status of a political prisoner in the host country.

“In compliance with the court ruling, the Kaduna State Government has filed at the Kaduna High Court terms for strict supervision of the medical leave, as follows:

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Nigeria shall confirm the appointments of the defendants/applicants with the Medanta Hospital, India, and undertake all necessary diplomatic arrangements and protocols to ensure compliance with the conditions of the medical leave.

“Each of the defendants/applicants shall undertake to return to Nigeria to continue their trial as soon as they are discharged from the hospital, and shall also be responsible for the cost of their travel, treatment and living expenses while on their medical leave.

“Each of the defendants/applicants shall produce two prominent and reliable persons as sureties, one being a first-class chief/emir of national repute and the other a prominent person within Kaduna State who shall undertake to produce the defendants whenever they are needed. The sureties must also produce evidence of landed property within Kaduna State.

“The Federal Government of Nigeria shall obtain from the government of India an irrevocable guarantee that it will not entertain any application by the defendants/applicants or any third party seeking asylum under any guise or conferring the status of political prisoners or any other status aside from being  medical patients on the defendants/applicants and shall also restrain the defendants/applicants from any act inimical to the corporate existence of Nigeria.

“Each of the defendants/applicants shall undertake in writing, endorsed by their Counsel, that while on medical treatment in India, they shall do nothing to jeopardize the ongoing trial, the peace and security of Nigeria and the laws of the Republic of India in whatever form.

“Security agents of the Federal Government of Nigeria shall escort the defendants/applicants and remain with them throughout the duration of their treatment in India and thereafter shall return with them after their discharge from the hospital.

“The Nigerian High Commission in India shall undertake prior vetting and grant consent before any visitor has access to the defendants/applicants while in the Republic of India.

“As is readily evident from the above, many of these terms of supervision depend for their actualization on actions by the Federal Government of Nigeria which is the sovereign power vested with the constitutional responsibility for foreign affairs.

“While the Kaduna State Government respects the court’s ruling on medical leave, it disagrees with the premises on which it is based. Therefore, an appeal will be lodged on the matter, but a stay of execution will not be sought as the state government believes that a person may choose to travel abroad for any medical condition at his own cost.

“As stated earlier, El-Zakzaky and his wife are defendants in a criminal case. Given the pendency of this case, the proper thing is to await its conclusion. However, the Kaduna State Government notes that perceptions of this case are suffused in a veritable avalanche of deliberate falsehood, disinformation and revisionism, powered by vested interests.

Meanwhile, Kaduna State Government has said campaigns of calumny, misinformation should be stopped as the case between El-Zakzaky and his wife, Zeenat is in progress before the High Court.

Similarly, in another statement issued on Wednesday and signed by Aruwan, the government raised  21 points to support its reason for filing a suit before the state High Court to seek legal redress against the sect.

Among the reasons raised in the statement, the government said: “Between 12-14 December 2015, there were clashes in Zaria between the Nigerian Army and the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN). The clashes began when IMN blocked a public highway and refused to lift the blockade to enable passage by the convoy of the Chief of Army Staff. The clashes resulted in the loss of lives and the destruction of property.

“Following the clashes, IMN leader, Malam Ibrahim El-Zakzaky and his wife, Zeenah Ibrahim, were arrested by the Nigerian Army and passed to the custody of the federal authorities.

“On 29th January 2016, the Kaduna State Government constituted a Judicial Commission of Inquiry into the matter. The 13-member commission of inquiry was chaired by Justice Mohammed Lawal Garba of the Court of Appeal.

“Among other findings, the Judicial Commission of Inquiry assigned responsibility for the Zaria clashes to Malam Ibrahim El-Zakzaky as leader of the IMN. The Judicial Commission of Inquiry noted that ‘members of the IMN gave absolute loyalty to Ibrahim El-Zakzaky. He, therefore, bears responsibility for all the acts of lawlessness committed by the organization and should therefore be held responsible, fully investigated and prosecuted.”

“The Judicial Commission of Inquiry also recommended the proscription of the IMN, noting its disregard for the Constitution and the laws of the Nigerian state.

“The Kaduna State Government accepted these findings of the Judicial Commission of Inquiry and commenced the processes for prosecuting Mr. El-Zakzaky.

“In October 2016, the Kaduna State Government declared the IMN an unlawful society, drawing on powers vested by Section 45 (1) of the Constitution and Section 97A of the Penal Code (Cap 110, Laws of Kaduna State, 1991).

“While in the custody of the Federal Government, Mr El-Zakzaky’s counsels filed a case against the Federal Government for the enforcement of his fundamental rights at the Federal High Court.

“Neither that court nor any other court has made any order against the Kaduna State Government for the release of Mr El-Zakzaky on bail. After the conclusion of the Judicial Commission of Inquiry process, the Kaduna State Government requested the transfer of Mr El-Zakzaky to the state for the legal processes to begin.

“In 2018, the Federal Government eventually acceded to the Kaduna State Government’s request for the transfer of Mr and Mrs El-Zakzaky from its custody to facilitate their proper arraignment before the Kaduna State High Court.

“The eight-count charge in the State versus El-Zakzaky (KDH/KAD/60c/2018) were filed under Sections 59,47, 66, 77, 73, 222 and 78 of the Penal Code Law of Kaduna State.

SEE HOW THE NIGERIAN MILITARY PERSONNEL BURNT DOWN A COMMUNITY IN RIVERS STATE WITHOUT ANY PROVOCATION

MASTER REPORTERS GLOBAL NEWS...

A very disheartening event that took place in a very peaceful environment in one of the Riverine communities in Ke Kingdom, Degema LGA of Rivers State, Biafraland on Monday 29th July 2019, without any speck of provocation or confrontation was invaded and burnt to the ground by the Nigerian Army. According to an eyewitness during the invasion, the Nigeria military said they were sent by the government led by Jubril Aminu Al-Sudan impersonating late Mohammadu Buhari to burn down the community.

According to an eyewitness who was present and a victim of the army tortures and abuse by name Mrs. Gloria who was an indigene of Bayelsa State narrated and gave first hand report of what happened. You wouldn’t believe that the Nigerian military are so heartless even in this hard time where people are dying of hunger and starvations, yet they ignore the sufferings and went ahead to burn down people’s labour. Below is her narration and she was interviewed by the media personnel that were on ground after the military has left thereafter.
A woman by name Mrs. Gloria from Bayelsa State narrates her discomforts, “ According to her, she has stayed in Ke Kingdom in Degema LGA of River’s State for more than 15 years, fishing is her hobby since her stay in the community, showing crates burnt

which she used to sell drinks, on that very day the 29th July 2019, She was approaching the River bank (Riverside) when she saw some boats on a standby, and as she was approaching the boat, the military man was moving closer to her, she was nervous and started asking the military personnel what is her crime. Before she could understand herself, the Nigerian Military personnel started hitting on her. And threatening her that she will know, still she was confused on everything that was happening because all her 15 years of stay in the community, all she does was to smoke dry crawfish and fish in the community no disturbance of any kind has come her way.

However, as she was pleading and asking her crimes, the soldiers continued threatening her that she will see, continuously; and Mrs Gloria asked again “Oga Wetin I Do”? In Pidgin English meaning (what is my crime sir!), then the military personnel ordered them to pack out their belongings. Mrs. Gloria begged and requested her crimes, the soldiers continued to abuse her, anyone that pleaded too were abused and tortured. Since they couldn’t stand the tortures and abuses from the military, they horribly pack their beds, cloths, Refrigerator, etc., as she was packing her belongs outside the building in the community, the military
personnel started chasing after her and beating her up. She then ran away leaving everything outside.
According to Mrs. Gloria (the victim) she ran and stood one side watching what the military personnel was about to do, as they succeeded in chasing her off the scene, they immediately set the place on fire, according Mrs. Gloria, the properties she brought outside was not caught on fire, but heartlessly the military personnel went to the properties they told her to bring out; set it on fire. Everything burnt down; she had no clothes, etc. Even the cloth she was putting on later was given by the neighbouring communities.

She continued; both her kitchen where she smokes fish were burnt to the ground, both her net used in fishing were all burnt, 15 bags of crawfish which she smoked was all destroyed. One bag of crawfish is equivalent to 30 rubbers of crawfish but everything was destroyed, as she was narrating her pains, she was crying so bitterly, the wrapper and top she was putting on where given by the neighbours, for over 4 days she hasn’t taken her bath. She had no shelter, no clothes, no money and no one to ask for help. She is frustrated and lack words to describe how wicked the government could be. She said.
Inclusion; can such disheartening event happen in any civilized world? Why are the world keeping mute and allowing existence of Nigeria? Isn’t Nigeria a crime against humanity? A community burnt, properties burnt, and tomorrow if this people are armed to fight back, they will declare them terrorist. Isn’t what the Nigerian Military personnel did not a terrorist act? My heart is breeding, my pen and tears is crying for justice. Our land will never be taken forcefully by the Fulani Jihadist terrorist Army.
We reject Nigeria both in spirit and physical. Dissolve this crime against humanity now. Only Biafra will save us from this mess. I can’t stand this anymore. Let me drop my pen here because the pain in my heart is too much to bear.

Breaking: #RevolutionNow Protest Has Completely Failed - Presidency

MASTER REPORTERS GLOBAL NEWS

Breaking the news from around the globe.

By Leon Usigbe - Abuja

The Presidency has observed that the #RevolutionIsNow protest organised under the aegis of Global Coalition for Security and Democracy in Nigeria has failed as only a few hundred Nigerians participated in it.

A statement issued in Abuja on Monday by Garba Shehu, Senior Special Assistant to the President (Media & Publicity), the fact that millions of Nigeria did not join the protests, which took place in parts of the country on Monday, was a victory for democracy.

“The Global Coalition for Security and Democracy in Nigeria’s attempt to incite citizens into a revolution against their own democratic rights and interests has failed – as will all attempts to take away from the people their hard-won rights and freedom to choose who leads their country,’’ the statement said.

The statement titled, “The winner is democracy in Nigeria,” added: “Today, millions of Nigerians went about their businesses: work, seeking employment, attending school/college and caring for their families. By doing so, the millions defended our country’s hard-won democratic rights – by ignoring calls on social media to join a phantom ‘revolution’.

“There were a few hundred persons today who, for their own reasons, decided to act upon the demands of a group calling itself Global Coalition for Security and Democracy in Nigeria, which went on social media to ask everyday Nigerians to overthrow the government they only elected some six months ago.

“The President is humbled by the support – not for himself, or the governing party – but for the democratic values of modern-day Nigeria through the wisdom of those millions of citizens who preferred democracy and decided not to undermine an elected government.

“Today, joining those millions of Nigerians was not only the President and governing party at the federal level but many state governments from the opposition, trade unions, civil society organisations, media and NGOs with focus on freedom of speech. All have, rightly, united in protecting Nigeria’s young democracy and the rights of all to elect leaders and lawmakers.”

MASTER REPORTERS GLOBAL NEWS

Breaking the news from around the globe.

Reliable and disturbing information reaching Family Writers Press from Agbogugu Autonomous Community in Awgu Local Government Area of Enugu State, has it that Fulani herdsmen terrorists have struck yet again. This time, they attacked and kidnapped a traditional ruler of Umu Obom, Agbogugu Autonomous Community, His Royal Highness (HRH), Igwe Sunday Orji and his dear wife.

The incident occurred at about 6:00pm on Sunday 4th August 2019 on their vehicle driving towards Agbogugu, along Enugu/Port Harcourt expressway, back from their visit to Awgu community. The traditional ruler's vehicle was badly damaged with gun shots in the bid by the marauding terrorists to forcefully stop their mobility. HRH Igwe Sunday Orji and his wife were however forced out of the vehicle and taken away as captives through a bush path to an unknown destination.

Recall vividly that it was in the same territory that the Fulani terrorists killed a Catholic Priest on Thursday 1st August 2019, triggering off an unprecedented protest in Enugu by the Catholic Priests of Enugu Diocese, the following day. Several cases of Islamic jihadi attacks carried out by these criminals against innocent indigenous citizens recently, have unabatedly been heightened within Enugu and it's environs.

Abduction Of 5 RCCG Pastors: Nigeria Has Never Been This Bad - Pastor Adeboye

MASTER REPORTERS GLOBAL NEWS

Breaking the news from around the globe.

THE General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, on Friday decried the worsening state of security in Nigeria, declaring that the country had never been this bad.

Pastor Adeboye, who said the spate of killings, abduction and general banditry across the nation was unprecedented, also announced the kidnapping of five pastors of his church on Thursday evening at J3/J4 area of Ogbere on the Benin-Ijebu-Ode-Sagamu Expressway.

The Ogun State police command, through its Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed the incident.

The abducted pastors were travelling in a commercial vehicle with registration number KW 230 XA belonging to Abia Line Transport Company which was coming from the eastern part of the country heading towards Lagos.

They were said to be on their way to attend the church’s Ministers’ Conference in Lagos when they were attacked by hoodlums numbering about 10, who were reported to have forcefully stopped the vehicle.

The police spokesman told journalists in Abeokuta that the gunmen, after forcing the vehicle to a halt, whisked away four men and a woman into the forest but left behind the driver, a sick passenger and his wife in the vehicle.

The abducted pastors, according to the police, are Chidioze Eluwa (male), Chiemela  Iroha (male), Okoro Ohowukwe (male), Ndubuizi Owuabueze (male) and Ibeleji Chidinma (female).

Pastor Adeboye, while giving a talk at the Ministers’ Conference holding at the Redemption Camp located along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, lamented the spate of insecurity in the country, saying that the situation had never been this bad.

He added that the abduction of the pastors gave him a sleepless night on Thursday and charged the congregation to pray for the safety and freedom of the abducted pastors.

He said this was the first time an incident of this magnitude had happened to the church.

“As a father, how do you think I should feel to hear that five of my children have been kidnapped while on their way to attend the Ministers Conference?” he said in response to a journalist’s question.

The Ogun State police spokesman, Oyeyemi, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, however, said the command could not ascertain whether or not the captives were pastors of the RCCG.

“It cannot be confirmed that those abducted were pastors but it was learnt that five people, including four males and a female, were abducted while travelling inside a bus from the East to Lagos.

“The hoodlums came out from a forest around Area J3 along Benin-Ore-Ijebu-Ode Expressway and kidnapped these people. We are on top of this and in due course, they will regain their freedom,” he added.

He said through surveillance, the whereabouts of the kidnappers and their victims had been revealed and the state’s Commissioner of Police, Bashir Makama, had personally led the police rescue team to the location.

“Through surveillance, we have got to know their location but we don’t want to attack them so that we won’t put the victims’ lives in danger. By the grace of God, we will rescue the victims,” Oyeyemi said.

Your invitation a great insult, won’t honour it, Southern leaders tell Abdulsalami

Your invitation a great insult, won’t honour it, Southern leaders tell Abdulsalami

By Ripples Nigeria
For sending invitation to it and also extending same invitation to Miyetti Allah, the Southern and Middle Belt Leaders Forum (SMBLlF) has told a former military head of state, Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar (retd.), that its members would not attend his meeting.

Abubakar had invited the group to a security roundtable fixed for July 29 and 30 in Minna, Niger State.

He had also extended the invitation to heads of security forces and other notable Nigerians, Gan Allah Fulani Development Association, and Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN).

But SMBLF, a group made up of pan-Yoruba group, Afenifere; Ohanaeze Ndigbo; Pan-Niger Delta Forum; and the Middle Belt Forum, accused Abubakar of insulting them by asking them to be part of a meeting Miyetti Allah will be part of.

They likened the development as similar to the categorisation of the socio-cultural platforms with Miyetti Allah by Presidential Muhammadu Buhari’s Spokesman, Garba Shehu some time ago.

SMBLLF made their feelings known in a statement co-signed by Chief Edwin Clark (PANDEF); Chief Ayo Adebanjo (Afenifere); Chief Nnia Nwodo (Ohanaeze); and Dr Bitrus Pogu (MBF) in Abuja on Sunday.

“We thank you for your interest in the affairs of our country which made us to accept your invitation in good faith.

“It was in the thick of our preparations for the journey that fuller details of the roundtable came to our attention, some aspect of which has necessitated this last minute communication with you.

“We were comfortable up to that point until we saw the following: Gan Allah Fulani Development Association; Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria.

“While we do not know the members of the first group, the lumping of Miyetti Allah, a trade association for cattle herders and whose members have been accused of various violations of rights, including life, across the country sends worrying signal to us.

“It falls into the categorisation of our respected socio-cultural platforms with Miyetti Allah by Presidential Spokesman, Garba Shehu.

“We consider the above a grave insult to our bodies and our coming to a roundtable with the group would mean acquiescence to the narrative that put us in the same bracket with those wielding illegal AK-47 all over the country and inflicting terror on fellow citizens,” the statement read.

If The Islamisation Of Nigeria Continue I Will Personally Move Motion For Oduduwa Independence – Fani Kayode

 MASTER REPORTERS GLOBAL NEWS...

A former Minister of Aviation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode has threatened to move a motion for the secession of the South West geopolitical zone from the Nigerian federation.

He issued the threat in a tweet via his verified Twitter handle on Wednesday morning.

According to him, the move might become necessary if the perceived ‘Fulanisation and Islamisation agenda’ continues in Nigeria.

Fani-Kayode said such a motion by him will be consistent with the precedent set by his father, Chief Remi Fani-Kayode, who on August 2, 1958, successfully moved the motion for Nigeria’s independence from British colonial rule.

He said that the new republic that would emerge would be known as “Oduduwa”.

The former Minister tweeted: “On August 2nd 1958 my father, Chief Remi Fani-Kayode, successfully moved the motion for Nigeria’s independence from British colonial rule.

“If the Fulanisation and Islamisation agenda continues I shall move the motion for Oduduwa’s independence from Nigerian colonial rule.”

Killings; About 130 Persons Killed Not 60 - El-Rufai

MASTER REPORTERS GLOBAL NEWS...

Kaduna State governor, Nasir El- Rufai has said that over 130 persons and not 60 were killed in Kajuru village in the last week attack in the area.

El-Rufai had earlier claimed that 60 persons were killed in the attack but was faulted by the state chapter of Christian Association of Nigeria, which accused him of exaggerating the number of casualties to incite crisis in the state ahead the February 16 presidential election.

The election was later postponed by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

But speaking with State House reporters after a Security Council meeting, presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari at the Villa on Tuesday, El-Rufai claimed that over 130 persons died during the attack in the state last week.

The governor claimed that the killing was a deliberate plan to wipe out a certain community, and maintained that anybody questioning whether the attack took place or not, was grossly irresponsible.

He said, “The latest report shows that over 130 people were killed, not even 60. We have the list and we will release it to the media. The affected communities have provided us with the names of those that were killed.”

The governor promised that those behind the killings would be made to face the full wrath of the law.
