Nwodo made this statement on Monday when he was reacting to questions from Ladi Akeredolu-Ale on NewsNight at Channels Television.

He said “attacking Igbo leaders in a foreign land has painted the Igbo in a bad light, people all over the World will now think that Igbo don’t respect their elders. But let me say to you that IPOB cannot represent what Igbo stands for because they are the minority.

He stated further that when IPOB was proscribed we defended them that have done nothing that will warrant Federal Government to take such actions. We defended them before but now we can’t defend them again since they have turned around to be attacking us: elders and Igbo politicians.

He, however, said that security challenges are not limited to the region, that all the regions in the country have to contend with one form of insecurity or the other.

They also called on all Igbo investors and business moguls to relocate their businesses back home to support the realisation of Enyimba Economic City, Aba project as they have mobilised foreign investors from Asia and European countries.

According to them, it is a means of securing their life endeavours not to be threatened under any guise as the foreign investors will create about 200,000 Jobs for Igbos unemployed youths at the commencement of Enyimba Economic City Aba.

They, however, vowed to embark on a heavy protest and civil disobedience in Abuja and all Igbo speaking states against the Minister of Aviation for non-commencement of rehabilitation work at Enugu Airport, 35 days after its closure which they said had infected untold economic hardship on the people and sabotaged the efforts of South-East governors to the successful upgrading of Enugu Airport to full International airport by putting all the night landing facilities to accommodate international flights during the Christmas period.

“We are alerting President Muhammadu Buhari and the South-East governors of non-commencement of work on the airport, we wonder why Lagos-Ibadan Expressway rehabilitation work is ongoing day and night and there is non-commencement of rehabilitation work at Enugu Airport 35 days after.”

They also passed a vote of confidence on all South-East governors chaired by Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State for banning the movement of cattle by foot in the zone. They also commended Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi for employing no fewer than one thousand seven hundred (1,700) forest guards to tackle the insecurity challenges emanating from the activities of criminals masquerading themselves as herdsmen, even as they promised to deal decisively with any erring pastoralist from October 1, 2019.

They called on Nigeria Army to suspend Operation Python dance in South-East and focus more on the North-East and West where there is need to settle the insecurity challenges emanating from Boko Haram activities and banditry, according to them, there are no insurgents In South-East.

“We will not accept any illegal activities of the military officer in the South-East that may lead to the untimely death of any youth like in the case witnessed by dismissed military officer Sgt Johnson, and we urge all Biafra agitators to shelve any plans for protests as the army will begin operations in the nearby future.”

Meanwhile, the group has drawn the attention of President Muhammadu Buhari to the state of federal roads in the South-East, saying the condition of the roads is getting worse in this raining season, some of the roads they aid include Enugu (Aba axis), which they called a death trap, same for Onitsha-Enugu, which they said is impasse.

“Aba-Calabar Expressway have been overtaken by bushes and hunters are having a field day, Abaomoge/Ugep road, Owerri-Port Harcourt road, Umuahia-Ikot Ekpene road are no longer motorable, Ohafia-Arochukwu-Calabar Expressways and the only bridge linking Abia and Cross River have collapsed, Okigwe-Akowa federal road is now reduced to only a trekking route as it is difficult, even for bicycles and motorcycles to move on the roads.

They urged the Federal Government to declare a state of emergency on all the federal roads in the South-East.

Highlights of the meeting was an award given to a British citizen, Ms Ngozi Cornwell, who had dedicated her 35 years to service at Itumbuzor Leprosy Missionary Centre, Bende LGA of Abia State treating leprosy patients.

…Says 2023 Igbo Presidency gaining momentum over Biafra

By Nwafor Sunday

Following the proscription of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, and the alleged marginalization of the Igbo in Nigeria, intaandem with IPOB’s quests for an independent nation, a social-political organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide, Wednesday urged Nigerians, especially the Igbo extraction to support the 2023 Igbo Presidency, noting that IPOB is an evaporative smoke.

The group categorically noted that the 2023 Igbo Presidency was gaining momentum over Biafra in the country.

Disclosing this in a statement signed by Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, President General, and Mazi Okwu Nnabuike, Secretary General, the group opined that prominent statesmen and leaders are in support of the project, advising IPOB to tag along for the unity of Igbo.

The group stated that the Igbo would present the likes of Zik of Africa and Dede Sam Mbakwe as quality Presidential Candidates that would represent the ethnic groups in the country.

The statement reads thus:

“Prominent statesmen and leaders across-the-board had pledged support for 2023 Igbo Presidency. This shows that after the inauguration of 2023 National Committee on Igbo Presidency project by November 1st 2019, we will have more Nigerians to support the Igbo.

“We appreciate the Afenifere leader Pa Ayo Adebayo, the Ijaw leader Pa Edwin Clark, Alhaji Balarabe Musa, Maj-Gen Ishola Williams, PDP BOT member, Chief Ebenezer Babatope, and millions of Nigerian Youths, for their collective bargaining for a Nigerian President of Igbo stock in 2023.

“We are pursuing the 2023 Igbo Presidency project from the master plan designed by late Chuba Okadigbo in 2003, before he became the then running mate to President Muhammadu Buhari in defunct ANPP.

“In this cause Buhari assured Igbo in 2003 in Umuahia, that he was destined to hand over power to an Igbo Man. 20 years after by 2023, he will surely do that.

“IPOB is projecting the 2023 Igbo Presidency project unknowingly and we should desist from self-destructive tendencies.

Igbo Presidency Is Very Easy To Achieve than Biafra, Think Twice - Ohanaeze Tells IPOB

Igbo Presidency Is Very Easy To Achieve than Biafra, Think Twice - Ohanaeze Tells IPOB

MASTER REPORTERS GLOBAL NEWS

Breaking the news from around the globe.

Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide, has urged Igbo and the Proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, to support the cause for an Igbo Presidency come 2023, and jettison their quest for the realization of Biafra independence.

The group argued that it would be better for IPOB to back 2023 Igbo Presidency which it said was easier, and nearer than Biafra realization.

Disclosing this in a statement signed by both the President and Secretary General, Mazi Okechukwu isiguzoro and Mazi Okwu Nnabuike, the group said it would inaugurate a new 2023 National Committee on Igbo presidency project, with a clear mandate to reach out to all the Youth leaders, opinion leaders, respected Statesmen, Traditional Rulers, Religious leaders, Women leaders and students in all the zones.

The group equally stated that it would lobby Stakeholders in the two major political parties, through strong persuasion to break new barriers and build bridges across Six Geo political Zones.

Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide said it would appeal to the conscience of the political actors to concede 2023 Presidential tickets to Igbo Speaking States which Rivers and Delta States are inclusive.

Read the statement below:

“South East remains an integral part of Nigeria, and in other to address all manner of ill feelings like perceived marginalization and Biafra agitation, Nigerians irrespective of tribe and religion know that for unity, justice, fairness and equity to reign, Igbo should be supported to take a shot at the Presidency in 2023.

“It’s glaring to all Igbo that Igbo Presidency project is closer to achieve than Biafra realization. The process of achieving Biafra independence is more cumbersome and complicated compared to Igbo Presidency project which is closer and easier.

“Irrespective of the fact that Igbo, IPOB believe in Biafra independence, United Nations are yet to receive documents on Biafra independence. Or has the European Parliament open discussion on Biafra? We are fully aware of the limitations of Biafra agitation.

“Yes we have been through economic hardships, through various nefarious activities of some corrupt customs officers who unleashed untold hardship on Igbo importers/exporters and traders.

“That is why we should opt to 2023 Igbo Presidency as a re affirmative action towards our togetherness as one tribe.

“We have petitioned international bodies like Petitions ECOWAS, AU on the sinister motives behind the Closure of Akanu ibiam International Airport Enugu for 43 days now without a single rehabilitation work going on.

“After our observation and warnings to the Minister for Aviation, Hadi Sirika last week, the General Manager Corporate affairs, Mrs Herrietta Yakubu hurriedly dished out  Press release to the public that work will soon begin till now Weeds have taken over the airport.

“We appreciate the untiring efforts of the South East Governors led by Gov Dave Umahi for all their efforts in unifying and securing the Igbo region.

“We call on President Muhammadu Buhari to give Presidential order to the ministry of Works and housing to rescind on the obnoxious policy of erecting toll Gate in our federal highways.

“Our roads are bad and had worsened during this raining season. It’s like adding salt to injury by erecting toll Gates on bad roads.

“Imaging erecting toll Gates on Enugu-Ph roads (Aba Axis) which is a death trap or a toll Gates on Aba/Calabar Expressways overtaken by bushes and hunters are having a great day.

“Or a toll gate on ontisha/akokwa/okigwe Expressways which is now a trekking routes only for bicycles and motorcycles,

“Is it Abaomoge ugep Road, or ohafia/Arochukwu/Calabar Expressways whose only bridge connecting Abia State had collapsed.

“Or is it Enugu/Onitsha Expressways that you will erect toll Gates and expect Igbo to pay… Federal Executive Council on its valedictory sessions on May 22nd 2019 approved the Expansion and rehabilitation of Aba/Calabar Expressways road, Rehabilitation of Ikot Ekpene/Umuahia Expressways, dualization of Owerri/Umuahia Expressways, dualization of Aba/Owerri Expressway, Abaomoge ugep Road, and the same Minister Fashola is yet to commence work on any of these roads.

“Erecting toll Gates will send wrong signals, Presidency should suspend and scrape such obnoxious policy, its Anti people’s policy.”

Read the statement below:

Communiqué of Igbo (Youth) Day celebration held in Aba, Abia State on the 28th and 29th September 2019.

There’s no going back on the 2023 Igbo Presidency project (Ogu eji ofor). Based on Justice, Equity and Fairness the 2023 Presidency project of Igbo stock had kicked off in Enyimba City with a National Committee set up to reach out to other prominent Leaders/Stakeholders and Youth leaders from the Six Geo political Zones.

Igbo youths attention have been drawn to the closure of Akanu ibiam Int’l Airport Enugu for 34 days now without any Commencement of any rehabilitation work going on.

We don’t want to believe that there are sinister motives and intentions by the Ministry of Aviation, to infect untold Economic  hardship and sabotage the efforts of South East Governors to the successful upgrading of Enugu Airport to full Int’l Airport by putting all the night landing facilities to accommodate Int’l flights during the  Christmas period.

We are alerting President Muhammadu Buhari and South East Governors of non Commencement of Work in the Airport.

If no Contractor is seen on the site between one week of this public condemnation there will be heavy Protests and Civil disobedience in Abuja and across the Igbo speaking States against the minister of Aviation on this matter.

Igbo Youth call on Igbo investors and business moguls to relocate their businesses back home and Support the realisation of Enyimba Economic City Aba project as a means of securing their life endeavours not to be under threats.

We had mobilised foreign investors from Asia and Europe for the realisation of Enyimba Economic City Aba.

About six foreign investors from Asia and Europe in health sector, manufacturing and distribution had indicated interests and will be in Abia State to negotiate with the Government on the way forward.

This foreign investors will create about 200,000 Jobs for our unemployed youths at the commencement of Enyimba Economic City Aba.

Igbo youths passed Vote of Confidence on the South East Governors led by Gov Dave umahi on the Resolutions of the forum on the recent ban on movement of cattle by foot in the South East.

We give special thanks to the Enugu State Governor, RT Hon Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, on the implementation of 1700 Forest Guards to tackle the insecurity challenges emanating from the activities of criminals masquerading as herdsmen. Igbo youths will now deal decisively to any erring pastoralist from 1st October 2019.

We should let the Army know that they should suspend any operations in the South East or put human face in the next operation python dance in the South East, since there are no insurgents in the South East.

The military should focus on the North East and West to settle the insecurity challenges emanating from Boko haram activities and banditry.

We will not accept any illegal activities of Military officers in the South East that may lead to the untimely death of any youths.

We urge all Biafra agitators to shelve off any plans of protests as Army will begin operations in the nearby future.

Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide welcome home the delegation of Igbo Youths who escaped the xenophobic Attacks in South Africa.

This delegation led by the chairman of ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth South Africa, Mazi Collins Ogbuehi, begged the South East Governors led by Gov Dave umahi to consider helping them in resetting down.

We specifically honour the Management of Airpeace for the kind gesture extended to stranded Nigerians in South Africa recently.

Our award for the Igbo woman of the year goes to a British citizen who had spent 35 years in itumbuzor leprosy missionary centre, Bende LGA, Abia, Ms (Ngozi ) Cornwell.

This White British citizen dedicated her life treating leprosy patients for 35years and speaks Igbo language fluently.

We will push her for National awards in the office of SGF and Abia State awards during the 2020 edition Enyi Abia awards on 27th August 2020.

Finally We draw the attention of President Muhammadu Buhari on the State of federal roads in the South East.

Almost all the federal roads in the South East had collapsed in this raining season, Enugu-Ph (Aba Axis) are death traps, Onitsha-Enugu are impasse, Aba/Calabar Expressways have been overtaken by bushes and hunters are having a field day.

Abaomoge/ugep Road, Owerri/pH road, Umuahia/ikot Ekpene road are no longer motorable, Ohafia/Arochukwu/Calabar Expressways the only bridge linking Abia and cross river had collapsed.

2023 Igbo Presidency Is The Only Way To Stop Biafra Agitation - Ohanaeze

MASTER REPORTERS GLOBAL NEWS

Breaking the news from around the globe.

On Thursday, The Ohanaeze Youth Council Worldwide, OYC, declared that it had begun consultation with other geopolitical zones in the country with a view to producing a president of Igbo extraction in 2023.

The Igbo youth group also declared that agitations by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and other pro-Biafra agitators in recent times would end should a Nigerian of Igbo extraction become president immediately after President Muhammadu Buhari.

The President-General of the group, Okechukwu Isiguzoro, stated this during an interactive session with journalists in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State.

Isiguzoro called on political leaders from other zones of the country to disregard the recent activities of the IPOB, saying that “actualization of the Igbo presidency in 2023 would mark the extinction of IPOB.”

He said: “The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide, has already commenced consultation with Arewa Consultative Forum, Northern Elders Forum, and Coalition of Northern Groups, with the intention to seal the bond that has been existing between them as old allies since 1960.

“We are satisfied with the leadership of the South-East Governors’ Forum headed by David Nweze Umahi of Ebonyi State. He is a detribalized Nigerian who believes in one Nigeria.

“Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide observed there are fears in some quarters, especially from prominent Northern groups and leaders over the recent antecedents of IPOB towards destroying the trust and endangering the prospect of a Nigerian president of Igbo stock in 2023.

“With the realization of Igbo presidency in 2023, Igbo will be happier in Nigeria, and activities of IPOB will fizzle out like a vapor.

“IPOB activities will end, with the realization of a Nigerian president of Igbo stock. With insinuation that IPOB activities are working against Igbo presidential materials and potentials from the South-East, Nigerians might opt for full compensation for the marginalized region by voting en-mass for an Igbo man to emerge as president in 2023.”

Breaking: We Will Expose You And Bring You Back To Nigeria If Any Igbo Leader Is Being Attached Again - South -East Governors Warns Nnamdi Kanu

South-East Governors have issued a stern warning to Nnamdi Kanu, Leader of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) over his threats to attack them and other South-East leaders abroad.

The Governors, in a statement on Tuesday night, said should Kanu make his threat real, they would by all means repatriate him back to Nigeria to face the wrath of the people.

The statement was signed by its chairman and Governor of Ebonyi State,David Umahi.

Former Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, was on Saturday assaulted in Nuremberg Germany by IPOB members where he was invited as a keynote speaker at the occasion of the annual new yam festival and convention of Ndigbo in Germany.

Kanu, via broadcast on Radio Biafra, praised the attack and threatened that the same fate would befall Igbo politicians “any time they are seen in public abroad.”

Why I Dissolved Ohanaeze Branches In London And Ghana - Nnia Nwodo

Why I Dissolved Ohanaeze Branches In London And Ghana - Nnia Nwodo

MASTER REPORTERS GLOBAL NEWS

Breaking the news from around the globe.

BY IFEOMA OKEREKE

President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Chief Nnia Nwodo, has said he dissolved the organisation’s branches in Ghana and London because of increasing factions, The Sun reports.

Nwodo said the leadership of the apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation was worried about the development and would no longer tolerate any faction in the body, anywhere in the world.

The Ohanaeze boss spoke at Abagana in Njikoka Local Government Area of the state during the celebration of this year’s New Yam Festival, organised by the President of Igbo World Assembly, Dr. Nwachukwu Anakwenze.

He lamented the seeming disunity among Ndigbo and urged the people to come together and forge ahead for the task ahead of the ethnic nationality.

He said it would appear that the great and admirable intelligence for which Igbo were known, was gradually overwhelming them, wondering why the people should not plan and work together wherever they lived.

Nwodo, who spoke in Igbo said: “I just returned from Ghana, where I dissolved the two factions of Ohanaeze, along with the two presidents’ general and two traditional rulers and we are making arrangement on when to go and conduct proper election for them in that country.

“There are about one million Igbo in Ghana and I have asked the country’s Minister of Interior not to recognise any of the factions. Even in London, we have factions and we have also dissolved them, pending when they will unite to form a united Ohanaeze in that branch. Lagos also had a similar problem, but we have been able to resolve the problem.

“It would appear that the intelligence of our people is overwhelming us, such that many of our people no longer reason properly.

“Our people should know that we are facing a very difficult challenge in Nigeria and my appeal to all Igbo is to be vigilant to be able to wage the battle facing us.

“Let us not allow disaster to befall our race in our generation. I believe that we are equal to the task before us and I am optimistic that we shall overcome.”

Commending Anakwenze, for galvanising the Igbo in the diaspora and celebrating the Igbo culture consistently, both in Nigeria and abroad, Nwodo asked others to emulate him.

Earlier, Anakwenze, who is the traditional prime minister of Abagana and former president of Anambra State Associations in the United States of America (ASA-USA), said his interest in sustaining the Igbo culture would not wane.

He said Igbo in the diaspora had established Igbo schools in Atlanta and Virginia with the teaching of Igbo culture as a major subject, adding that plans were afoot to bring some Igbo youths in USA for summer programmes in some Nigerian universities during which they would interact with their counterparts in Nigeria.

Nwodo who spoke to Sun News in parts of interview regarding Igbos strategy ahead 2023 general elections, said there is no basis participating in an election which will elect another tribal bigot.

According to him, “I would expect the Southeast to boycott the 2023 elections if they are conducted on the basis of this false federation that was imposed on us by the military .

“We have to go back to the constitution agreed to by our forefathers when Nigeria was created as a country.

“If there is no restructuring, there is no basis for participating in an election which will elect another tribal bigot and which will function on a system that is likely to make our country poorer, and poorer and poorer.

“Our constitution emphasises on sharing of money, received money without any input in catalysing our resources into more revenue.

“When you liberate the energy to the federating units ,they bake a greater cake and our country would be more prosperous.

“I am not interested in our people being the president in a skewed federation.

We Never Call For Buhari's Resignation - Ohanaeze

MASTER REPORTERS GLOBAL NEWS

Bringing to you Breaking news from around the globe.

The Secretary-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief Uche Okwukwu, on Tuesday said the National Executive Committee of the pan-Igbo group did not meet to take any decision that called for the resignation of President Muhammadu Buhari for attending a meeting of the Organisation of Islamic Conference in Saudi Arabia.

In a statement signed by the Secretary-General, which was made available to our correspondent, Okwukwu said the call for Buhari’s resignation by the Deputy Publicity Secretary, Chuks Ibegbu, was unauthorised.

He said it was imperative to set the records straight in order to secure the general safety or political development of the Igbo nation.

The Secretary-General also called on the Independent National Electoral Commission to issue a Certificate of Return to the Imo-West Senatorial District senator-elect, Rochas Okorocha, without delay.

Okwukwu noted that when the former President, Dr Goodluck Jonathan, attended the OIC meeting in 2013, the group did not call for his resignation.

He said the call for Buhari’s resignation was orchestrated by the President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief John Nwodo, whom he alleged had had political battle with President Buhari since 2003.

The statement read in part, “The leadership of Ohanaeze Ndigbo was shocked when it read with dismay the unauthorised statement credited to the Deputy Publicity Secretary, Chuks Ibegbu, calling on President Muhammadu Buhari to resign for attending the 14th session of the Forum of Heads of Government and states of the Organisation of Islamic Conference in Saudi Arabia.

“In 2013, President Goodluck Jonathan attended the Forum of Heads of States in Cairo, Egypt. Chuks Ibegbu and John Nwodo never called on President Jonathan to resign. Ohanaeze Ndigbo cannot be used as a platform to pursue bigotry in any form, be it ethnic or religious. The call was neither approved by the National Executive Council nor the Imeobi nor the General Assembly.

“In fact, a position of this nature can only be approved by the General Assembly given its grave implications on the general safety or political development of Ndigbo and Nigeria in general.”

Grant Presidential Pardon To Nnamdi Kanu Or There Will Be No Peace In Igbo Land As A Whole - Ohanaeze Warns Buhari

MASTER REPORTERS GLOBAL NEWS

Bringing to you Breaking news from around the globe.

Leaders of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council has made a passionate plea to President Muhammadu Buhari to use his highly exalted office to intervene in the arrest order of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra,

An Abuja Federal High Court on Thursday ordered that the secessionist leader and gave a direction that his trial will proceed in his absence. Nnamdi Kanu is charged for offences relating to treasonable felony while the court also revokes the bail it granted him earlier.

In a swift turn of events, the President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council, Okechukwu Isiguzoro, and Secretary General, Okwu Nnabuike, in a press release on Saturday stated that such action might finally destrabilise the current fragile peace in the Igbo speaking South-East region.

The  Ohanaeze Ndigbo youths disclosed that the first arrest of the IPOB leader was marred by widespread instability and violence in the region while asking President Muhammadu Buhari to issue presidential pardon to Biafra agitators to show compassion to the igbo nation.

The statement read in part, “The leadership of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide received the pronouncement and re-arrest order of IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, by a Federal High Court in Abuja with rude shock and disbelief.

“Weighing the implications of such action, it may destabilise the fragile peace that have returned to the southern part of Nigeria, especially the South-East and South-South after the sad experiences witnessed during his first arrest and subsequently the untimely death of innocent Igbo youths and women that characterised his first arrest and detention.

“And there is no need to escalate the tension already established in the South-East over the menace of herdsmen ravaging parts of Igboland. There is no need to compound our loss by allowing Nnamdi Kanu return now until Igbo Christians and Traditional leaders intervene in the process.

“We are pleading with President Buhari as the father of the nation to grant presidential pardon to Nnamdi Kanu, as a way of showing compassion to Ndigbo.’’

The Ndigbo group noted that there was no better time to re-unite all parts of the country than now.

In his reaction the counsel to the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Barr Aloy Ejimakor stated that

“On the matter of revocation of Kanu’s bail and the consequent Order of bench warrant, I, Barrister Aloy Ejimakor, Counsel to one of the sureties and a Special Counsel to Nnamdi Kanu, hereby issue the following this statement.

“The reports in the media quoting Justice Binta Murtala-Nyako as stating (when revoking Nnamdi Kanu’s bail on March 28, 2019) that the ‘three sureties who bailed Kanu had applied to the court to withdraw their suretyship’ is inaccurate.

“I should know because I represent one of the sureties and we never made such application or anything close to it.”

Ejimakor said that on the contrary, the sureties have been fighting to stay on as sureties while pointing to the army’s invasion of Kanu’s home as the sole and proximate reason for their inability to produce Kanu in Court.

He said, “That argument is still pending a hearing in a suretyship proceedings that was adjourned sine die at the time of the entry of the Order of bail revocation and the ensuing bench warrant.

“For the foregoing reasons, we are currently studying the record of proceedings of the said March 28 hearing to see whether it will be necessary for the sureties to file fresh processes to protect the integrity of their suretyship relationship with Nnamdi Kanu, which is still valid and subsisting.”

We Have No Regret At All For Not Voting For Buhari - Ohanaeze

MASTER REPORTERS GLOBAL NEWS

Bringing to you Breaking news from around the globe.

The apex socio-political body of Igbo, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has said it has no regrets for refusing to support President Muhammadu Buhari in the February 23 presidential election.

The group backed the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party for the poll, Atiku Abubakar.

However, Buhari of the All Progressives Congress eventually won the election.

Some political leaders in the South-East, including the Director-General of Voice of Nigeria, Osita Okechukwu, and APC’s National Auditor, George Muoghalu, criticised Ohanaeze for its decision to back Abubakar against Buhari.

But speaking with Saturday PUNCH on Friday, Ohanaeze said it would support Abubakar should the election be repeated.

National Publicity Secretary of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Prince Uche Achi-Okpaga, who spoke with our correspondent, insisted that they decided to endorse Abubakar because the former Vice-President expressed his commitment to restructuring the country.

He said, “Ohanaeze Ndigbo has no regrets about endorsing Atiku Abubakar of the PDP; we have no regrets about not supporting President Muhammadu Buhari. What happened was that the National Executive Committee of Ohanaeze decided to support the candidate that was interested in restructuring Nigeria, which has been our position.

“We did not support Abubakar because he was a member of the PDP – we endorsed him because he wanted to restructure the country.

“We are even saying that if you give us another opportunity to take a decision on who to endorse, we will still go for Abubakar because he identified with our interests.

“Ohanaeze has no regrets about not backing Buhari in the election. Despite the outcome of the exercise, we have no regrets at all.”

Achi-Okpaga said Ohanaeze was not expecting anything from Buhari.

Ohanaeze had accused Buhari of being unfair to Igbo, particularly in his appointments and major decisions, since he came to power in 2015.

But Achi-Okpaga said the body did not expect the President to treat Igbo better during his second term.

The spokesman said, “We are not making any demands, there is no need. A leopard cannot change its spots except there is a miracle.

“What he cannot do during his first term, you cannot expect him to do that in the second term. His actions, statements and body language show that he does not mean well for Ndigbo. So, we are not expecting anything from him.”
