Reports have emerged that operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) and police have reportedly barricaded the Apo residence of the deputy Senate president, Ike Ekweremadu.
An aide to Ekweremandu, confirmed to Daily Sun that the senator might arrested and detained by the security agencies. The reported siege to Ekweremadu's residence was also alleged by the the spokesperson for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Kola Ologbondiyan, in a tweet on Tuesday morning, July 24.
The Senate may not hold its plenary today, Tuesday, July 24, if Ekweremadu is detained since the deputy senate president was expected to preside over plenary in the absence of Bukola Saraki who has been asked by the inspector general of police, Ibrahim Idris, to appear at the office of intelligence response team in Abuja over the robbery incident which took place in Offa, Kwara state in April.
In a related report, the convoy of Senate President Bukola Saraki was on Tuesday morning, July 24, blocked by the operatives of the Special Anti Robbery Squad unit of the Nigeria Police, from leaving his Maitama residence.
The policemen reportedly stormed the residence at about 6:00a.m. and prevented vehicles from coming in or going out of the home of the Senate President.
