The Acting Chairman, Independent Corrupt Practices and other related Offences Commission, Dr. Musa Abubakar, has urged traditional rulers in the country to stop honouring and conferring chieftaincy titles on corrupt persons.

The ICPC boss said traditional rulers should thoroughly investigate individuals they wanted to honour in order to save the institution from embarrassment.

Abubakar gave the advice at the citizens  engagement forum held at the headquarters of the Olorunda  Local Government Area on Friday.

The ICPC boss said conferring chieftaincy and religious titles on corrupt individuals had unwittingly encouraged some Nigerians to believe that corruption was a way of life.

He said Nigeria would not be able to win the war against corruption without the support of traditional rulers  and other members of the society including the youth.

He said, “ The voice of elders and traditional rulers is always very important in the crusade against corruption because these esteemed personalities wield great influence on ordinary members of the society
