Two people have been killed in Zamfara State following an attack at the market by gunmen.
The incident occurred on Thursday evening when gunmen attacked the market in Karakai village, Bungudu Local Government Area of the state, firing shots and in the process, two people were killed while three others injured.
The spokesman of the Zamfara Police Command, Mohammed Shehu, confirming the incident on Friday said, “There were gunshots by gunmen at the market, and in the process, two people were killed while three others were injured.
“During the attack, the police team at the market could not exchange fire with the attackers to avoid further loss of lives and property”. He added.
Mr Shehu further stated that the attackers used the crowd as a human shield to escape from the scene.
Noting that, normalcy has been restored with patrol teams keeping vigilance in the affected environs.
According to the police, an investigation has commenced with a view to fish out and arrest the perpetrators of the attack
