The Centre for Democracy and Development (CDD) calls for government institutions who reportedly participated in alleged fraud during the Osun rerun election to be investigated - Senator Adeleke of the PDP alleges that Osun rerun election was brazenly rigged One of Nigeria’s most respected election monitoring groups in the country, the Centre for Democracy and Development (CDD), has said the Thursday, September 27, re-run election in Osun state was neither free, fair nor credible.

The group in a statement shortly after the poll also called for government institutions who participated in alleged fraud during the election to be investigated, Premium Times reports. It said: “In the light of these anti-democratic acts, which have undermined the sanctity of the ballot therefore, we hold strongly the view that the re-run poll of Thursday, September 27, 2018 does not meet up with the minimum standards for free, fair and credible elections. It falls short of global best practices in democratic elections which Nigeria aspires towards."

Meanwhile, Senator Ademola Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has rejected the results of the Osun rerun election ahead of the official announcement by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). The Punch reports that the candidate of the PDP in a statement issued by his campaign organisation on Thursday, September 27, described the rerun poll as brazenly rigged and vowed to seek legal redress in court.

He claimed that INEC, security agencies and the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) colluded to deny Osun people their rights to vote and be voted for.
