Awka – The youth wing of Ohanaeze Ndigbo has concluded plans to organise a two-million-man march to get support for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, and his running mate, Mr. Peter Obi.
Dr. Arthur Obiorah, the National President, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Worldwide, made this known in a statement made available to newsmen in Onitsha, Anambra State, on Wednesday.
Obiorah commended Atiku’s courage and wisdom for choosing the former governor of Anambra State, Obi, as his running mate.
According to him, “The youth wing of Ohanaeze Ndigbo worldwide, the Igbo socio-cultural group, wishes to salute the courage of the PDP presidential candidate for the confidence reposed in a vice presidential candidate from the South East zone.
“This has gone a long way to show that there is still hope in the Nigerian project which emphasises unity.
“The two-million-man march, therefore, is our deliberate effort to prove the popularity of Mr. Peter Obi and to express our confidence in the joint Atiku\Obi presidency come 2019 to rescue the nation from the current political, economic, social, insecurity, and infrastructural quagmire.”
Continuing, Obiorah said the march will serve as a campaign against violence during the elections.
According to him, the group would use the medium to enlighten Igbo youths on the importance of casting their vote and avoid being used as thugs before and during the 2019 elections.
He said the exercise, which would hold on November 18 in Awka and Onitsha, is expected to attract all Ohanaeze youths from the seven Igbo speaking states of Anambra, Imo, Enugu, Ebonyi, Abia, Delta, and Rivers.
He urged all Igbo sons and daughters to ensure they collect their Permanent Voters Cards (PVC), noting that the rally would be a PVC rally in support of Atiku-Obi 2019 presidential election.
He said: “We are ready to partner with individuals and other relevant groups as well as all Igbo sons and daughters, home and abroad, to deliver Atiku/Obi joint ticket come 2019.”
Meanwhile, Otu Oka Iwuoba (Law Society) of Anambra State has congratulated Alhaji Atiku Abubakar on his victory in the presidential primary election held in Port Harcourt.
It also congratulated him for choosing former governor, Peter Obi, as his running mate.
In a communiqué signed by its president, Chief Chuks Ikokwu, the group said opposition by PDP leaders and stakeholders in the South East was unnecessary and uncalled for.
