Before now, it has been common opinion that Ndigbo aren’t united. But recent happenings have proved this opinion totally wrong. The biggest evidence of the unity of the Ndigbo is seen in the many IPOB led demonstrations all over the country.
The most recent is the very successful sit-at-home demonstration on the 14th of September to honour the Biafran faithfuls who were murdered in cold blood by the Nigerian soldiers during the shameful operation python dance conducted in the South East last year.
In the five South East states, commercial activities were reduced to the barest minimum and only very few people were seen walking the roads on Friday.
With more and more of these kinds of cooperation from the Ndigbo, the opinion that we are not united is becoming increasingly unpopular. Ndigbo are beginning to show that the kind of unity we exhibited during the Genocidal civil war which saw us lose 2 million children is not lost on us.
But then, there is a whole lot more than sit-at-home demonstrations that can be achieved with this renewed unity of Ndigbo.
Ndigbo should do well to use this unity to fight for very important needs of Ndigbo like protesting for the building of more infrastructures in the South East, we should also learn to use them to hold our local politicians like our governors and senators at bay and bend them to do the will of the people.
Ndigbo have discovered how powerful the people can be in a democratic system of government, it would be very wise to make maximum use of it. We would love to see more demonstrations asking for the country to be restructured or referendum to be granted.
With this new heights which we have attained with our unity, we must strive to tower above our problems in Nigeria. We must learn to give the government of this country tough times and make sure our voices are heard all the time and the political class get consistent headaches from it.
United We Grow.
