A new terror group, claiming to be Islamic preachers, has emerged in Sokoto State from the neighboring Niger Republic, a BBC Hausa report said.

Quoting residents of the area, the report said about two months ago, members of the Islamic sect were spotted with guns around Tangaza Local Government Area of the state.

A source who craved for anonymity said members of the sect had levied wealthy individuals in some villages and flogged people who contravenes Shariah.

The source also revealed that more than 200 members of the terrorist group were “Fulani, white men and Arabs bearing guns and donning turbans”.

“They visit houses to collect money from the residents. Those who own rams pay N200 while those that have cows pay N500,” said the source.

The source also revealed that the militants reportedly trained some youth in the areas and gave them motorcycles after the training.

Tangaza Local Government shares border with Niger Republic, from where members of the sect were said to have infiltrated into Nigeria.
