Former President Goodluck Jonathan, on Wednesday has described workers across the world as the life wire of every productive economy and the gateway to sustainable development.

He said in Nigeria, workers have over the years displayed an uncommon sense of patriotism, sacrifice, and resilience as many have had to pay the ultimate price in pursuing national goal of seeking to build a nation where peace and justice reign.

He said the Nigerian workers deserved the gratitude of justice, the reward of dignity and the honour of freedom every day of their lives and everywhere they work.

The pride of every nation is its workforce. Workers are the life wire of every productive economy and the gateway to sustainable development across the world. In Nigeria, our workers have over the years displayed an uncommon sense of patriotism, sacrifice, and resilience as many have had to pay the ultimate price in pursuing our national goal of seeking to build a nation where peace and justice reign.

Today, many workers across the country are having their faith and hopes tested by the pressure of the economic realities of the time. But in the midst of these challenges, Nigerian workers have chosen to commit their all to the good cause of building a better society for us all.

It is for these reasons and many unacknowledged ones, that we owe our workers the gratitude of justice, the reward of dignity and the honour of freedom every day of their lives and everywhere they work.

On behalf of the Goodluck Jonathan Foundation (GJF) and myself, I wish the Nigerian workers a happy May Day. GEJ
