The recent physical assault on Senator Ike Ekweremadu continues to generate reactions nationwide - Prominent Nigerians and groups have condemned the attack on the former deputy Senate president - The Ndigbo Unity Forum says the attack on the Enugu state federal lawmaker is unacceptable A group, Ndigbo Unity Forum, has called the German government to fish out all those responsible for the attack on former deputy Senate president, Ike Ekweremadu, in Nuremberg, Germany, on Saturday, August 17 by members of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB).
President of NUF, Mr Augustine Chukuwudum, on Sunday, August 18 said that the attack on the Enugu state federal lawmaker was unacceptable. His words: “NUF condemns the attack on Senator Ike Ekweremadu in Germany by members of IPOB. “Ekweremadu is one of the highly placed Igbo politician who has been speaking for the betterment of Ndigbo in the National Assembly and at a national level for the past 12 years.
Afe Babalola makes stunning revelation, says DSS not empowered by law to arrest “The lawmaker remains the only Igbo politician who has done well for Ndigbo and that is why we are asking the question, what has he done wrong that IPOB wants to kill him. “They must be brought to book and be punished according to the law.
“We also call on the Nigerian government to provide adequate security for him even while he is in the country.’’ Meanwhile, Delta state governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, has condemned the attack on Senator Ike Ekweremadu. Okowa said in a statement by his chief press secretary, Mr Olisa Ifeajika, on Sunday, August 18 in Asaba, that the incident was pathetic, shameful and an embarrassment to Nigeria.
He stated that Ekweremadu had been a great patriot and defender of his people as well as the down trodden, and did not deserve the kind of ill-treatment meted to him by IPOB.
