by Nkem Ikeke - Omowole Sowore has been reportedly arrested by the operatives of the Department of State Services - Sowore's online publishing outfit, Sahara Reporters, broke the news - The AAC presidential candidate was reportedly picked up in the early hours of Saturday at about 1.25am Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) have reportedly arrested Omoyele Sowore, presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) in the 2019 elections. According to Sahara Reporters, Sowore was picked up at his apartment in the early hours of Saturday, Augus 3. The activist and convener of #RevolutionNow Protests posted a distress tweet at exactly 1:25am, after which someone claiming to be an eyewitness confirmed that his phone was forcefully taken from him.
“He also tweeted “Ja p”, confirming his phone must have been seized while trying to raise the alarm about his arrest,” according to Sahara Reporters report. Sowore had launched a #RevolutionNow campaign on Twitter with series of tweets mobilising Nigerian for a protest march against bad governance in Nigeria, scheduled for August 5, 2019. Legit.ng previously reported that Sowore was suspended by the National Executive Committee of the AAC on Monday, May 13.
