An Igbo Socio-cultural group, Ndigbo United Forum (NUF) says actualising Nigeria’s president of Igbo extraction is possible and achievements in 2023.

To this end, the group said that it has commenced activities with a view of sensitizing Nigerians and building blocks across political, ethnic and religious lines aimed at actualising the project.

Dr Haroun Aja, leader of the group in Ebonyi disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abakaliki on Friday.

Ajah said that the group, which has lined up a series of activities aimed at realising the project, noted that the group had held a high profile meeting with stakeholders where it brainstormed with some political leaders.

He said that his organisation was irrevocably committed to the project and to promote equity in the governance of the nation hence the need to educate the people to support the Igbo presidential ambition come 2023.

According to him, the organization would involve the who-is-who in the South-East in its quest to actialise the project.

Ajah said that the group would involve the political, the academia, religious leaders and traditional rulers including those in the entertainment industry from South-East geopolitical zone in the struggle.

He said: “We have six geopolitical zones created by an Igbo man, late Dr Alex Ekwueme during the Constitutional Conference.

“Other zones have produced the president, ordinarily, it is high time we closed ranks and support this cause.

“We are going to give our all in this regard, rally support from other zones of the country and ensure that justice, equity and fairness prevail in 2023 by an Igbo man becoming the president of Nigeria.

“Because of the philosophy behind the formation of the group, we have intensified effort in seeking the support of other ethnic nationalities and other third force in ceding their presidential candidates to the Southeast zone of Nigeria”.

Aja said that the activities of the group include voter education, advocacy and awareness creation, integration of various ethnic nationalities into the group to ensure the success of the mission.

What We Want Is 2023 Igbo Presidency Not Biafra - Ndigbo Youths Tells Buhari

What We Want Is 2023 Igbo Presidency Not Biafra - Ndigbo Youths Tells Buhari

MASTER REPORTERS GLOBAL NEWS

Breaking the news from around the globe.

The leadership of the apex socio-cultural youth organisation in Igbo land, the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide, on Thursday said it had begun intense consultation with other geopolitical zones in the country to facilitate and ensure the emergence of an Igbo president in 2023.

This is even as the Igbo youth group noted that the various agitations that had emanated from the camp of the Indigenous People of Biafra and other pro-Biafra agitators in recent times would end should a Nigerian of Igbo extraction become president immediately after President Muhammadu Buhari.

We are satisfied with the leadership of the South-East Governors’ Forum headed by David Nweze Umahi of Ebonyi State. He is a detribalized Nigerian who believes in one Nigeria.

“Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide observed there are fears in some quarters, especially from prominent Northern groups and leaders over the recent antecedents of IPOB towards destroying the trust and endangering the prospect of a Nigerian president of Igbo stock in 2023.

“With the realisation of Igbo presidency in 2023, Igbo will be happier in Nigeria, and activities of IPOB will fizzle out like a vapour.

Igbos Has Political Limits In Nigeria And That's Why They Can't Produce A President - Wabara

Igbos Has Political Limits In Nigeria And That's Why They Can't Produce A President - Wabara

MASTER REPORTERS GLOBAL NEWS

Breaking the news from around the globe.

Former President of the Senate, Adolphus Wabara has dismissed any chances of an Igbo Presidency come 2023.

According to the former Senate President, the Igbo nation had been systematically confined to certain political limits in Nigeria and for this reason its chances to aspire and reach for the Presidency in the next four years have been limited.

Wabara said the South-East was not ready for the presidency come 2023 when compared to the preparedness of other regions who were interested and financially ready to prosecute the project

He maintained that the lack of preparedness of the South east had denied the region any basis to negotiate a presidential spot for itself in 2023.

“There’s no chance for Igbo presidency in 2023 unless a miracle happens but there will be Igbo presidential candidates from some unpopular parties to satisfy all righteousness,” he told Tribune

“Furthermore there shall be no basis for Ndigbo to negotiate with other regions when those regions are equally interested and even more financially ready. We are on our own. Nobody wants us near Aso villa.

“As a matter of fact, we have been given our permanent place and limits in our country called Nigeria. However Ndigbo believes that a wise patient dog eats the fattest bone because this too shall pass, the former President of the Senate stated.”

Biafra: Nigeria Set To Break Up As World Igbo Congress About To Meet With UN, World Leaders Over Biafra

MASTER REPORTERS GLOBAL NEWS

Breaking the news from around the globe.

The World Igbo Congress (WIC) rose from its annual  convention in Houston, Texas, United States with a resolve to adopt diplomacy in the push for emancipation and possibly the independent state of Biafra.

A communiqué from the gathering  also dwelt on several myriads currently plaguing the Igbo nation.

These  included security of life and property in Igboland; the menace of the herdsmen, as well as the future of the Igbo regarding  association with her neighbours among others.

The convention also discussed how to support WIC to fully play the leadership role that will be beneficial to Ndigbo and the promotion of synergy among all Diaspora Igbo organisations.

The communiqué issued by Secretary-General of WIC, Dr. Richard Nwachukwu, after its deliberations, indicated that the Igbo  would approach the United Nations and the world powers to present their case against the Nigerian Federation.

It restated the call for the immediate  relocation  of Igbo businesses’ headquarters to Ala-Igbo in order to protect them from frequent and unwarranted attacks.

Other decisions from the convention  were that all Igbo support the congress which in turn is mandated to provide leadership in galvanizing Diaspora Igbo and pursue a plan of action leading to the information acquisition and dissemination necessary to promote investment in Igbo land.

To promote and support technology  transfer through mobilisation and active engagement of well-connected young Igbo entrepreneurs in the Diaspora to Ala Igbo. the congress agreed that it should work with Ndi-Igbo and progressive government functionaries.

The congress also agreed  that it should  pursue the establishment of Diaspora Igbo database so as to assist in strategic planning for the security and economic improvement of Igboland.

While lamenting that the 1999 constitution currently in effect in Nigeria, does not have referendum in any of the schedules,  it resolved to supplement the pursuit of Igbo emancipation through diplomacy and engagement of foreign powers, the United Nations and regional powers in matters involving the region politically, economically, militarisation, suppression, and persecution of Ndi-Igbo in Nigeria.

“Over the years, people in diaspora of different nations of the world, have been the key players and drivers of nation building and economic emancipation of their homelands. It resolved that the congress should take the leadership role like other diaspora groups like Jewish Congress, apply pressure and lobbying mechanism to achieve Igbo emancipation.

“It is resolved that WIC should, through Association of Southeast Town Unions, establish formidable intelligence units in Ala-Igbo, as well as reinforce vigilante groups in Ala-Igbo to ensure that Igbo land is protected.

The WIC also urged Nigeria to actively support religious freedom by signing the Roundtable on Ministerial Inter-Religious Freedom which other countries are signatories.

It also unanimously resolved that every adult Igbo in the Diaspora should donate a minimum of $20 annually to the congress’ special account to serve as a token of commitment and bolster the achievement of the mandates outlined.
