Ohaneze Totally Condemns Attack On Ejiofor's House,Says IPOB Did Not Kill Any Policeman

Breaking the news from around the globe

The President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief John Nnia Nwodo, has condemned the recent police attack and burning down of the residence of the IPOB lawyer, Barrister Ifeanyi Ejiofor.

In a release by the Media Adviser to the President General, Chief Emeka Attamah, the apex Igbo cultural organization called for a judicial inquiry into this case of unprovoked attack on a law-abiding citizen of the country whose only crime is that he peacefully objects to the maltreatment of his people.

It said that Ohanaeze Ndigbo observed that the spurious claim by the police that Ejiofor was “involved in a case of abduction, assault occasioning harm and malicious damage to property” holds no water as nobody was mentioned as the victim of the allegations.

It said that “assuming without conceding that Barrister Ejiofor was culpable on a charge of abduction, the only option in law available to the police is arrest and prosecution under the laws of Nigeria and not deliberate arson and wanton destruction of his family home.”

Ohanaeze Ndigbo further stated that even before its wrongful proscribing, IPOB had never been a violent group and could not have summoned enough force to attack and kill any policemen to warrant drafting in a reinforcement.

The release frowned at the situation where any mild expression of dissent against the manifest injustice being perpetrated against a particular ethnic group in the country will be met with maximum force by the Federal Government.

Ohanaeze Ndigbo called for a halt to the apparent and incessant physical, economic and political harassment of Ndigbo in a country watered with their blood and who have striven to keep and grow the country with their presence in all nooks and crannies of Nigeria.

We Are Fully Prepared For Miyetti Allah's Threat - Ohanaeze Ndigbo

President-General of Ohaneze Ndigbo, Chief John Nwodo

Apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo yesterday vowed not to bow to pressure of threats by the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) and surrender any portion of Igbo land for cattle breeding.

It, however, stated that Ndigbo were “prepared and waiting for them” to execute their threat to forcefully occupy lands belonging to the Igbo.

MACBAN’s leader, Alhaji Gidado Siddiki, had allegedly threatened to unleash mayhem on the zone following refusal of the governors to accommodate their members by approving land for cattle rearing.

Siddiki was quoted as saying that since the governors were ‘stubborn’ and refused to give them land, “it will be taken forcibly, while the entire Southeast will be raided and taken over by herdsmen.”

But President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief Nnia Nwodo, in a statement issued after its National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Enugu, however, cautioned Ndigbo to be vigilant and reactivate their local defense outfits in readiness for the threat.

“Await our next directives after consultation with our political and religious leaders, legislators, traditional rulers, town unions and affiliate organisations,” Nwodo told Ndigbo.

Reviewing what he described as a dangerous security situation the country, Ohanaeze stated that the increasing killings, kidnappings and other forms of banditry were an indication of collapse of national security.

Citing instances, the group noted that several local and international mining companies have occupied parts of northern Nigeria and engaged in illegal mining of mineral resources without licences.

He said the situation is exacerbated by the fact that the mining firms are being protected by local and foreign militia, as they continue to cart away and sell the country’s valuable mineral resources.

Meanwhile, the Catholic bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Reverend Paulinus Ezeokafor, has lampooned the Federal government for allegedly giving N100 billion to MACBAN to facilitate establishment of a Fulani Radio in the country.

He also criticised the government over its directive on revoking gun licences to responsible Nigerians, especially at this time when the security situation in the country was getting worse.

Ezeokafor, who stated this at St. Patrick’s Catholic Cathedral, Awka yesterday, while speaking on the state of the nation, however, added that if indeed the Federal Government gave that amount to the herdsmen, it amounted to their empowerment to unleash more mayhem on hapless Nigerians.

The cleric wondered why the President Muhammdu Buhari-led administration was bent on favoring only his Fulani kinsmen over other 200 ethnic groups, saying it was most unfortunate.

Call For Buhari's Resign By Ohanaeze Ndigbo Completely Idiotic - Ohanaeze Youths

Call For Buhari's Resign By Ohanaeze Ndigbo Completely Idiotic - Ohanaeze Youths

Recent calls for President Muhammadu Buhari’s resignation by Ohanaeze Ndigbo have been condemned and described as “idiotic and barbaric.”

The condemnation is coming from another wing of the Igbo group, the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide.

Following President Buhari’s  travel on May 30, a day after he was inaugurated into second term in office, to attend the Organisation of Islamic Countries (OIC) meeting in Saudi Arabia, Ohanaeze Ndigbo had tagged him a religious fanatic and asked him to resign.

But distancing itself from the position of the apex Igbo group, the youth wing of Ohanaeze leadership described as amazing Ohanaeze’s call on President Buhari to resign.

In a statement by its President-General, Okechukwu Isiguzoro, he said such call was strong enough to plunge the country into a religious war that will consume the country, especially Ndigbo living in the North.

“We disassociate ourselves from any call for the resignation of President Buhari few days after his swearing in, and urge those behind it to have a rethink and stop using Igbo platform for personal vendetta against the Presidency.

“We should be forming alliances and building bridges across the Niger, rather than creating enmity with predominantly Northern Muslims by calling on President Buhari’s resignation on religious grounds.

“We call on Vice President Yemi Osinbajo to douse all fears that could heat up the polity unnecessarily by summoning the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) to assure the Christian community that in a secular country like Nigeria, everyone is protected. He should also ensure that Mr. President’s Islamic believes are not misunderstood,” part of the statement read.

Certificate Of Return: Rochas Okorocha Is On His Own - Ohanaeze

MASTER REPORTERS GLOBAL NEWS

Bringing to you Breaking news from around the globe.

Ohaneze Ndigbo has dissociated itself from suggestions that it was making efforts to ensure that the issue surrounding Imo State governor, Rochas Okorocha’s certificate of return as a senator-elect is resolved as appropriate.

Okorocha has been battling the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) over his certificate of return as a senator-elect shortly after the election.

Ohanaeze in a statement in Enugu on Thursday, through the Media Adviser to its President-General, Chief Emeka Attama, said that it protects the collective Igbo interests, and that it would not descend to bargaining for personal issues such as in Okorocha’s case.

“Ohanaeze Ndigbo emphatically dissociates itself from the story, which did not emanate from the body. While Ohanaeze Ndigbo will always speak out on matters concerning Ndigbo generally, it will not allow itself to be dragged into partisan politics concerning individuals’, the group said.

It added that“Ohanaeze Ndigbo frowns seriously at the tendency of some of its officials or mischievous elements using the name of the body to issue unwarranted statements purporting them to emerge from the apex Igbo cultural organisation.”

He said statements not emanating from the President General, National Publicity Secretary, his Deputy or the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the President-General of the organisation on any issue should not be reckoned with by either the press or the public.

It elicited the issue of a recent statement from the President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo in Lagos, saying the body was looking into the matter.

“Ohanaeze is at the moment looking into a statement credited to its Lagos State Chapter President and will not hesitate to discipline any state president or official who issues any statement without authorisation,” Attama stated.
