Buhari Is Running Nigerian Government Now From London - Atiku Reacts Over Buhari's Signing Of Bills In London

MASTER REPORTERS GLOBAL NEWS

Breaking the news from around the globe.

The former Vice President and major contenders in 2019 Presidential election, Atiku Abubakar has accused President Buhari of running Nigerian Government from London after Buhari signed the amended Deep Offshore Bill into law in London, the United Kingdom.

Mr Atiku condemned Buhari’s actions after he failed to transfer power to Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo as he had done several times in the past. ” It is totally wrong for the President to run the Government of Nigeria in London, the right thing is to delegate power to his vice. But he failed to do so.

This implies that all memos, bills and other documents requiring the President’s signature must be taken to London for signing.

The former vice President reacted after the Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Malam Garba Shehu said in a statement that the President assented to the bill in London.

The statement reads: “Today (Monday) is an important day for all Nigerians – but particularly the young generation.

“I signed into law the amended Deep Offshore Act. Nigeria will now receive its fair, rightful and equitable share of income from our natural resources for the first time since 2003.

“In that year oil prices began a steep increase to double – and at times – triple over the following decade.

“All this time Nigeria has failed to secure its equitable share of the proceeds of oil production, for all attempts to amend the law on the distribution of income have failed. That is, until today (Monday).”

Buhari said rapid reductions in the cost of exploration, extraction and maintenance of oil fields had occurred over the past 25 years, just as sales prices have risen within the period.

The President added: “A combination of complicity by Nigerian politicians and feet-dragging by oil companies has, for more than a quarter-century, conspired to keep taxes to the barest minimum above $20 per barrel – even as now the price is some three times the value.

“Today this changes. For the first time under our amended law, 200 million Nigerians will start to receive a fair return on the surfeit of resources of our lands. Increased income will allow for new hospitals, schools, infrastructure and jobs.

“Today marks a new and beneficial relationship with our oil company partners: one that benefits all – starting with the Nigerian people.”

APC Backs Buhari Over Border Closure

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) on Tuesday gave its strong support for the federal government on continued closure of the country’s borders as ordered by President Muhammadu Buhari
The party’s National Working Committee (NWC) while backing the order, despite reports of its biting effect on the citizens said Nigeria can no longer be a dumping ground for all manners of importation.
The National Chairman of the party, Adams Oshiomhole, also rejected a request made by the visiting Deputy Prime Minister of Vietnam for the country to be allowed to export the country’s rice to Nigeria at a subsidised rate.
The Communist of Vietnam Tuesday had appealed to the ruling All Progressives Congress through its National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole to urge the federal government to open its borders and allow it to be importing Vietnamese rice at reduced prices.
Deputy Prime Minister of the Vietnam, Vuong Dinb Hue, who led a delegation to meet the APC Chief and members of the party’s NWC in Abuja said they had also scheduled a meeting with Vice President Yemi Osinbajo with view to restating the same position.

Speaking at the end of his meeting with the Vietnam leaders, Oshiomhole insisted that the border would remain closed until Nigeria’s neighbouring countries abide by the ECOWAS law, adding that Vietnamese farmers can come to the country and invest in rice production.
“Nigerians should unanimously back the decision of the Federal Government to close the borders until our neighbours decide to respect the laws of fair and free trade.
“Nigeria must not and cannot be a dumping ground for imported foods, imported rice and other smuggled chemicals and drugs into our country.
“I think this is one policy that across party divides, across primordial sentiments, people should salute the courage of President Muhammadu Buhari in shutting down the borders because for too long, we have been a big brothers to our neighbours.
“Now, that big brother is hurting us and hurting us very badly. We must secure ourselves as they say when you board an aircraft that if oxygen fails and they drop the mask, help yourself before helping others.
“This is the moment we must keep those borders shut. If we do so for two, three years, it doesn’t matter, our neighbours will learn to respect the rules of international engagement and the rules of trade.
“We cannot continue to rely on imported rice. That was why I told the DPM, when he talked about allowing Vietnamese rice to come to Nigeria. I said No, we are not going to do that, we will not do that.
“On the contrary, we are prohibiting the importation of rice, not just that CBN denied the foreign exchange because there are linkages of forex unofficial. We don’t need imported rice because when I was growing up, and when you are growing up, we didn’t grow on imported rice. We must recognize that we are facing serious economic challenges.”

Insulting Leaders Through Social Media Shows Lack Of Parental Upbringing - Emmanuel Udom

By  Jerrywright Ukwu

- Governor Udom Emmanuel is concerned about the misconduct of some youths on social media - The governor is not happy that some young ones are using social media to abuse elders and those in leadership positions - The governor stated that the action of the youths involved is a result of poor upbringing Governor Udom Emmanuel has frowned at the habit of some Akwa Ibom youths using social media platforms to insult people in leadership positions.

According to the governor, the unruly behaviour by the culprits is a result of poor upbringing. The governor made the statement while addressing a church congregation in the state capital, Uyo on Sunday, October 13. He urged parents to put efforts into ensuring that their children are raised in a way that pleases the almighty God. Governor Emmanuel further said the consequences of not paying attention to children brings about youth restiveness, deviance, and lawlessness experienced in society.

“If you have lived up to your responsibility to your children, my job would have been fifty% done, because it is the attitude of every single child that will determine the level that child can go to,” the governor told his audience. He urged children in Akwa Ibom to be respectful to constituted authorities, their parents as well as elders in the society He noted that if Christians live by God's words, society would be much better and attract blessings from God.

Governor Emmanuel recently presented a budget proposal to the state House of Assembly which places emphasis on education, industrialization and poverty reduction. The document is predicated on the policy thrust of the Udom administration, to gradually metamorphose Akwa Ibom's civil service status, to a largely private-sector driven state.

North Will Immediately Remove Any President Who Attempts To Implement 2014 Confab - Junaid Muhammed

North Will Immediately Remove Any President Who Attempts To Implement 2014 Confab - Junaid Muhammed

MASTER REPORTERS GLOBAL NEWS

Breaking the news from around the globe.

Junaid Mohammed, elder statesman and Second Republic federal lawmaker was a delegate to the 2014 National Conference convened by the Goodluck Jonathan administration. In This interview with TEMIDAYO AKINSUYI, he spoke on why the recommendations of the conference can’t be implemented and other issues. Excerpts:

insecurity in their states, some governors have been negotiating with bandits and in some cases, giving them money. Do you think this is a right approach?

It is not. I believe it is a very dangerous trend. It shows that the governors are not sincere and they have underfinanced the security system even though they make billions of naira in the name of maintaining security. Essentially, they have been stealing the money which was earmarked for security. So, I don’t accept the idea of negotiating with bandits. It is a bad idea and I believe instead of paying off the bandits, they can finance the police and assist the DSS and other security organisations. It shows what will happen in the state if governors are allowed to set up their private policemen. It is going to be disastrous and make Nigeria ungovernable.

Some Nigerians are calling for the implementation of the 2014 national conference as a way of addressing some of the challenges facing the country. What is your take on this?

Those saying that, have they read the report? Has anyone of us who attended the conference told Nigerians what aspect we want to be implemented? I was at the 2014 national conference. I represented Kano state which is one of the two biggest states in the country. I had been involved in several conferences in the past and even after the 2014 conference, we also had another one here in Kano concerning the state. As far as I am concerned, that 2014 confab is a fraud. What they are purporting to be the report is a fraud. Most of the issues that we discussed which were rejected were brought back into the final report through the backdoor. They did that with the full cooperation of the then President Goodluck Jonathan. But we defeated every issue they brought even though we are in the minority. If you want to have a constitutional conference, one, it must be a representative of the whole country so that people don’t feel marginalised especially those who are in the majority in the country. The north has been in the majority in the country even before 1914. You cannot have a constitutional conference in which the North has been reduced to minority in the country and you say you are having a constitutional conference. And in spite of that,we still defeated them.

In fact, I want somebody from the South to become the President and attempt to implement the report of the 2014 conference; we will kick him out in no time. You cannot be a democrat and pretend that it doesn’t matter who are the people who constitute the majority in the country. Democracy in itself means credible free and fair election. Whatever we do, that principle must be represented. If they want to try it, let them try it. It is one of the gimmicks that Jonathan attempted but he failed. In fact, initially, the idea in the North here was that we should not attend the conference but we thought doing so may lead to the break-up of the country and we don’t want to be held responsible historically for that kind of very serious step. So, we went, we saw and we defeated them.

Do you think it is morally right for a northerner to aspire for the Presidency in 2023 after President Buhari must have completed his two terms if he survives the judgment of the Supreme Court?

What do you mean by morally right? Politics and morals are two different aspects of human endeavour. First and foremost, if you know my history, from the Second Republic, I have never supported the idea of zoning or rotation. Though many Nigerians accept the idea of zoning or rotation, I don’t. But at the same time, the South East has not accepted the principle. PDP accepted the principle because they want everybody to have the opportunity to steal public money. They want it to go round. If Nigerians are serious, if a party because of zoning should put forward an unpopular or unacceptable candidate, they should simply refuse to vote for him. But in a democracy, saying we should dedicate certain positions to some people in what is supposed to be a democratic free and fair election is wrong.

As Second Niger Bridge And Ogoni Cleanup Are Scam, Igbo Presidency Will Also Be A Scam, Watch Out! - Nnamdi Kanu

MASTER REPORTERS GLOBAL NEWS

Breaking the news from around the globe.

Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Chief Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, has declared that Igbo Presidency in 2023 is not real, it’s like second Niger Bridge and the Ogoni cleanup.

Kanu said this in a live broadcast on Radio Biafra, on Monday, October 7th, 2019.

We recall that several Igbo groups including the Ohanaeze Youth Council, OYC, had called on other ethnic groups in Nigeria to support the Igbo presidency project, saying that it would end the agitation for a sovereign state of Biafra.

Speaking in his latest broadcast, Kanu stated that “the idea that the Igbo presidency will end the agitation for Biafra is nonsense.”

He said that the presidency coming to the Southeast will not make the lives of those living in the region any better, arguing that the North has the presidency but still has beggars, banditry, and camps for Internally Displaced Persons, IDP.

“Having the presidency will not make your life better, the North has the presidency but has beggers, banditry, and IDP camps,” Kanu said.

The IPOB leader further said,

“Igbo presidency is a dream, it’s like second Niger bridge and Ogoni cleanup.”

2023: I Will Fight With My Last Blood To Make Sure That Igbo Man Becomes The President Of Nigeria - GoodLuck Jonathan Vows

MASTER REPORTERS GLOBAL NEWS

Breaking the news from around the globe.

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has declared support for the emergence of an Igbo person as Nigeria’s president in 2023.

The Ex President declared that the Igbo nation deserves to produce Nigeria’s next president and also merit the position.

This he said in a recent interview with Vanguard when he was asked about his opinion about the 2023 presidency.

“Some argued that the Igbo have not played politics well to deserve it?. How do they want them to play it? Have they not been participating in all the elections? Do they not have governors elected in the East? Do they not have National Assembly members elected in the East? Is it because they refused to vote for a particular party?” Goodluck declared.

Former president, however, chided Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Works minister, Babatunde Fashola and Labour Minister, Chris Ngige for linking the ability of the region to produce the next president with their support for Buhari in the 2019 election.

Jonathan noted that such calls “were mere campaign gimmicks“. Adding that those touting such claims do not actually understand how Nigeria got independence and subsequent political development in the country.

He maintained that Easterners have played major roles in Nigeria’s development and have qualified persons capable of taking up the mantle of leadership.

You Threatened Me Over My Refusal On Gay Marriage - Jonathan Exposes David Cameron

MASTER REPORTERS GLOBAL NEWS

Breaking the news from around the globe.

Former President, Goodluck Jonathan has revealed that the Former Prime minister of the United Kingdom, David Cameron, used envoys to ‘threaten’ him over his refusal to pass laws legalising Gay Marriage in Nigeria.

Jonathan’s explosive response is coming after the Former PM accused Jonathan of refusing help from the UK to rescue the Chibok Girls. In a statement seen by POLITICS NIGERIA, Jonathan revealed;

“As President of Nigeria at that time, I came under almost unbearable pressure from the Cameron administration to pass legislation supporting LGBTQ Same-Sex marriage in Nigeria. My conscience could not stomach that, because as President of Nigeria, I swore on the Bible to advance Nigeria’s interests, and not the interest of the United Kingdom or any foreign power.”

“As such, on Monday, January 13, 2014, I signed the Same-Sex Marriage Prohibition Bill into law after the Bill had been passed by an overwhelming bipartisan majority of Nigeria’s parliament, in line with the wishes of the Nigerian people. This happened shortly after a study of 39 nations around the world by the U.S. Pew Research Center came up with a finding which indicated that 98 per cent of Nigerians were opposed to the idea of Gay Marriage.”

“Immediately after I took this patriotic action, my government came under almost unbearable pressure from Mr. Cameron, who reached me through envoys, and made subtle and not so subtle threats against me and my government.”

“In fact, meetings were held at the Obama White House and at the Portcullis House in Parliament UK, with the then Nigerian opposition to disparage me, after I had signed the Same-Sex Marriage Prohibition Bill into law.”

Buhari's Independence Speech Is An Indication That Nigeria Has Entered One Chance - PDP

Buhari's Independence Speech Is An Indication That Nigeria Has Entered One Chance - PDP

  MASTER REPORTERS GLOBAL NEWS

Breaking the news from around the globe.

The opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has faulted the live broadcast made by President Muhammadu Buhari to mark the celebration of the country’s 59 years anniversary.

The party which has ruled Nigeria for sixteen (16), described President Buhari’s Independence Day broadcast as an insult on the psyche of Nigerians and a mockery of the country’s democracy.

Disclosing this in a statement signed by Kola Ologbondiyan, National Publicity Secretary of the party, PDP said that the speech was completely unpresidential, lacking in patriotic stance and replete with manifest inconsistencies, contradictions, paradoxes and false performance claims, which further confirm that our dear fatherland is in wrong hands.

Read the statement below:

“The PDP notes that President Buhari, in his recorded address, failed to forcefully address the key issues of freedom, social justice, constitutional order, separation of powers, rule of law, human rights, credible elections, national cohesion, accountability and transparency in government; the very fundamentals of an independent state, because his administration had violated them all.

The party regretted that President Buhari had no forceful reassurances on the challenge of escalated insecurity under his watch; he had no clear-cut and operable blueprint to revamp our economy, which his administration wrecked in a period of four years, resulting in so much hardship and despondency that Nigerians now resort to suicide and slavery abroad as options.

Our party notes that this address further exposes that the Buhari Presidency is not interested in nation building; that it is completely disconnected from the people and remains insensitive to the plights of Nigerians.

The PDP states that if anything, Mr. President only succeeded in further demonstrating that his administration is, indeed, in no position to deliver a credible, acceptable and satisfactory independence address.

This is so because under the Buhari Presidency, our nation has experienced the worst form of division, deprivation, human right abuse, constitutional violations, disregard to rule of law, electoral malpractices, disobedience to court order, disrespect for separation of powers and curtailing of press freedom.

The PDP further laments that due to the incompetence and legitimacy challenges confronting the Buhari Presidency, our nation is losing her voice and due regard in the international arena; as the administration has remained lacking in the required capacity and boldness to forcefully engage other world leaders on critical issues.

The dearth in foreign direct investment and the inhuman treatments being meted out on our citizens in countries where we were once held in very high esteem, are some of the injuries our nation is suffering under the Buhari administration.

The party describes as depressing that while other leaders motivate their citizens on a day like this, President Buhari is presenting uninspiring claims, propaganda and empty promises.

The PDP however urges Nigerians not to despair but keep hope alive as we collectively await the Supreme Court to deliver justice and retrieve our stolen Presidential mandate, so that the nation will have a leadership that it truly deserves at this point in our national history.”

Presidency Reacts Over Buhari's Plan To Extend His Leadership Beyond 2023

MASTER REPORTERS GLOBAL NEWS

Breaking the news from around the globe.

The Presidency has reacted to the report making the rounds that he may seek to amend the constitution in order to stay on beyond 2023.

One of the President’s support groups had last week staged a protest calling for his tenure to be extended.

The Presidency, however, in a statement signed by Garba Shehu, said he wishes “to correct internet-based gossip and un-informed media commentary regarding presidential term limits, given credence by so-called support groups, staging street demonstrations asking President Muhammadu Buhari to do a third term.”

The statement added that “There are no circumstances – nor set of circumstances – under which President Buhari may seek to amend the Constitution regarding the two-term term limit on holding office as President.

“President Buhari intends to serve his full second elected term in office, ending 2023 – and then there shall be a general election in which he will not be a candidate.

“There is not even the faintest possibility that this will change.

“It is important to note that there was a past attempt to change the Constitution to allow for the-then incumbent president to stand for a third term. That attempt was wrong, unconstitutional – and rightly rebuffed. No such attempt will happen under this President.

“President Buhari is a democrat. He respects the Constitution. Any activity aimed at altering the two-term limit will not succeed and shall never have his time nor support.”

Government Is Working Hard To Prevent Farmers/ Herdsmen Clashes, I Urge You All To Pray For Nigeria And Her Leaders To Succeed - Obiano

The Anambra State governor, Chief Willie Obiano has assured that recurring crisis being experienced between cattle herdsmen and indigenous farmers in Nigeria was being tackled by the federal government.

Obiano who spoke during the celebration of a Eucharistic mass to mark the beginning of the celebration of the 59th independence anniversary of Nigeria at St Patrick Catholic Cathedral, Awka, Anambra State said government was working and that it would be a thing of the past soon.

He called for prayers from the church, and cooperation from Nigerians in the area of fulfilling their obligations.

“I urge you all to pray for the leaders of this country to succeed, as well as play your own part in making the country succeed through prompt payment of taxes, for the betterment of the state and country.

“We prayed that soon, the issue of herdsmen attacks in Nigeria, would be a thing of the past.

“I re-assure you of the commitment of my administration to security of lives and property in the state. Anambra State under my watch would by the grace of God, continue to be the safest state in Nigeria.”

Earlier, while delivering the homily, the Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Rev Paulinus Ezeokafor charged Christians to strive to change the society for the better. He called on them to challenge the world’s conscience, its value system and paradigm.

He pointed out that governance should be for the common good of the people, while charging government officials at all levels to live up to the demands and expectations of the office they occupy.

The Bishop called all, especially the politicians to guard against what he described as stealing from the poor, and in turn, using the proceeds of theft to manipulate the poor.

He condemned the rate of insecurity in the country, and flayed the Federal Government for not taking drastic action to curb the menace of Fulani Herdsmen attacks.

“It appears the Federal Government value mere cows more than human beings, and as such had failed in addressing the many attacks and killings of innocent persons by the suspected Fulani Herdsmen,” Ezeokafor wondered.

Do You Know Why Aisha Buhari Is No Longer In Presidential Villa? - Presidency

Do You Know Why Aisha Buhari Is No Longer In Presidential Villa? - Presidency

MASTER REPORTERS GLOBAL NEWS

Breaking the news from around the globe.

The Presidency on Saturday said President Muhammadu Buhari’s wife, Aisha’s absence in the country for about two months was not due to any infighting in Aso Villa.

The Presidency’s reaction comes amid the speculations that Aisha is unable to pull her weight round the Villa lately and uncomfortable with how government affairs were being run by some powerful people in her husband’s cabinet.

The Director of Information to the First Lady, Mr Suleiman Haruna, debunked the speculations and said the President’s wife had the freedom to travel to wherever she wanted, as a free citizen.

Aisha has not been in the country for nearly two months since the completion of the Hajj. She reportedly jetted out of Saudi Arabia, where she went in company with her husband, to London at the completion of the religious pilgrimage in August.

She has not returned to the country since then, fuelling concerns that she deliberately left the Aso Villa in protest against certain issues at the seat of power.

The First Lady’s prolonged absence at Aso Villa became pronounced as she did not attend public functions that she ordinarily would have attended.

She was said to have been absent during the mid-August Eid-el-Kabir celebration in Daura, Katsina State, even though his husband was around to welcome world leaders such as the President of Guinea, Alpha Conde.

It was reported that the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Administration, Dr Hajo Sani, had been representing Aisha on a number of occasions recently, including an event of the Organisation of African First Ladies for Development, which held on September 25, 2019, on the sidelines of the 74th United Nations General Assembly in New York, United States.

The event was said to have been attended by the first ladies of Zimbabwe, Sierra Leone, Uganda and Niger Republic.

Although Mrs Buhari’s office confirmed to Sunday PUNCH that she was indeed away from the country, it said it had nothing to do with issues she had with anyone at the seat of power in Abuja.

The office said as a free Nigerian who was not a government official, Mrs Buhari could travel for private engagements both within and outside the country, adding that the reasons for such trips must not be tied to “needless speculation or rumours.”

Speaking to Sunday PUNCH after the case of Aisha’s absence from the country was raised, her spokesperson, Haruna, insisted the President’s wife had the freedom to be wherever she wanted to be.

He said, “It’s a free world and people have been speculating about everything in this country and it is allowed.

“She is a free Nigerian and does not work for the government. So, if she decides to stay somewhere in her village for two months or to go somewhere and stay for two months, why should it become a national issue?

“She is a free Nigerian and has absolute freedom to move round for however long she wants.”

Asked to comment on the speculation that Aisha was no longer comfortable with how the affairs of government were run and her alleged frequent brushes with some top administration officials, including the Chief of Staff to the President, Mr Abba Kyari, the director dismissed them as rumours.

“I am in shock when I hear all these things. I don’t believe in all these rumours about the President’s wife because they are not true.

“That is why, most times, the office does not bother to react to these speculations,” Haruna added.

Aisha had publicly raised issues with her husband’s administration, including the one where she stated that persons who did not contribute to her husband’s election victory were calling the shots at the Presidency.

She had also canvassed more roles for women in government, specifically asking the leadership of the ruling All Progressives Congress to ensure that more women and card-carrying members of the party were given prominent positions in the government after Buhari won a re-election in February.

In March 2019, she hosted a programme in Buhari’s Daura hometown to thank women for supporting her husband. She promised them that the President would recognise them more this time round and also make Nigeria a better place.

The President’s wife had also criticised some of the administration’s policies, including the N500bn Social Investment Programme, which she said had failed “woefully” in the North in particular.

Aisha, who hails from Adamawa State, had noted in May this year that the situation in her home state, as far as the implementation was concerned, was pathetic.

She also cited Kano, a highly-populated northern state, as another example where she believed the programme failed, despite the huge funds the Federal Government budgeted for it.

Speaking during an interactive programme she organised for women at the Presidential Villa, she disclosed that after four years of implementing the programme, the 30,000 women who were supposed to benefit from it in Adamawa State had yet to do so.

However, in a reaction to Aisha’s comments, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Social Investment, Mrs Maryam Uwais, said the programme did not work the way the President’s wife understood it.

It's Not Constitutional For Me To Hand Over Government To Osibanjo, I'm Not Expected To Do So - Buhari

MASTER REPORTERS GLOBAL NEWS

Breaking the news from around the globe.

President Muhammadu Buhari has defended his action to not hand over power to Vice President Yemi Osinbajo when he visited the UK privately between April 25 to May 5, 2019.

Reports stated that Buhari said there was no constitutional requirement for him to do since the journey was less than 21 days.

The president made this known in a suit by a Lagos-based lawyer, Inibehe Effiong, which challenged him and the Attorney-General of the Federation for not delegating power to the vice president.

The was suit marked, FHC/L/CS/763/2019, is before Justice A. O. Faji of the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos and will be heard on Monday, October 7.

The petitioner is asking the court to say whether under the constitution the president can go on vacation for without informing the National Assembly to empower his vice to preform presidential functions in his place.

The president through Friday Aliyu, a lawyer in the Civil Litigation Department of the Federal Ministry of Justice, defended his action through a six-page affidavit.

The affidavit reads in part: “It is a fact that the 1999 Constitution (as amended) regulates the performance of the duties of the President of the federal Republic of Nigeria in situations where the President is proceeding on vacation or is otherwise unable to discharge the functions of office.

“That it is a fact that where the President embarks on a vacation or otherwise is unable to discharge the functions of his office and fails to transmit a written declaration to that effect, he will be considered not to have complied with the constitution (as amended).

“That the time within which the President has to transmit a written letter to the President of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Federal Republic of Nigeria is 21 days.”

The affidavit added that the said trip was only for nine days and the president has not gone against any constitutional provision not to delegate power.

Aliyu also asked the court to strike out the suit and not given a formal hearing because it lacks proofs to back up its case.

Wike Warns APC, PDP And Others Over Attempt To Take River's Oil Well, Vows To Retaliate

Wike Warns APC, PDP And Others Over Attempt To Take River's Oil Well, Vows To Retaliate

MASTER REPORTERS GLOBAL NEWS

Breaking the news from around the globe.

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, has declared that many states were being used to fight against Rivers State for the illegal grabbing of the state’s oil wells.

Commissioning the Dualised/Reconstructed Birabi Street, Elegbam-Rumueme in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area on Friday, Governor Wike said the State has the capacity to resist any form of oil well annexation.

He said, “So many states are being used to fight Rivers State to collect our oil Wells. We have the capacity to fight back. No state will take what belongs to Rivers State.

“Whether you are PDP or APC State, anybody who attempts to take what belongs to Rivers, Rivers State will fight back.

“This is not a question of party. It is the interest of the state that matters. My interest is Rivers State, not political party. If you are in PDP and you don’t love Rivers State, I will not love you . My love for you is based upon your love for Rivers State.”.

He said that Rivers State deserves the best, noting that his administration will continue to work for the growth of the state.

The governor said that his administration will enhance the infrastructural base of Port Harcourt and Obio/Akpor Local Government Areas, as a large percentage of Rivers people live in the state capital territory.

He thanked the people of Rumuadaolu in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area for cooperating with the contractors to deliver the road.

Governor Wike praised Former Rivers State Governor, Dr Peter Odili for grooming the present generation of political leaders in the state.

“Dr Peter Odili is the person who brought all of us up. No political leader can claim that he is what he is today without Odili .

“Odili laid the foundation. But for him, Ikwerre man would not be Governor of Rivers State. Ikwerre people owe him a lot. It was difficult in this state for any Ikwerre man to be Governor. He took the risk for an Ikwerre man to be Governor .

“I know the hatred people have on him because he said an Ikwerre man must be Governor. We shall continue to stand with him. Any Ikwerre man who is anywhere without recognising Odili will not know peace. Any Ikwerre man plotting against you and your family will never have peace.”

Governor Wike said the many fights Odili is having today is because he insisted that an Ikwerre man should be Governor. He urged the Former Rivers State Governor not to regret facilitating the emergence of an Ikwerre Governor in the state.

In a project description, Permanent Secretary, Rivers State Ministry of Works, Dr Walter Ndu said the ministry is implementing the governor’s outstanding urban renewal programme.

He said the road was a single lane, before the Rivers State Governor directed that a section be dualised, while the second section was expanded for improved traffic.

Chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, Solomon Eke praised the governor’s sense of judgement in dualising the road that leads to the headquarters of Salvation Ministries. He said thousands of international visitors to the church would enjoy using the high quality road.

He said that the people of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area appreciate the governor’s commitment to the development of the area.

We Don't Have Another Country, So Lets Join Hands Together To Move Nigeria Forward - Sultan Of Sokoto

MASTER REPORTERS GLOBAL NEWS

Breaking the news from around the globe.

The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar has expressed concern that Nigeria is still hamstrung by a litany of challenges 59 years after it attained independence and appealed to all Nigerians to come together to move the country forward.

The head of Jama’atu Nasril Islam, made the heart felt request yesterday during the Independence Day Public Lecture held at the National Mosque, Abuja.

He said Nigeria was plagued with many issues of governance and other socio-economic challenges in spite of her endowment with human and natural resources.

The Sultan, who bared his mind on a wide range of issues which beset the country, questioned the readiness of the political class to address the challenges and take the people to the next level.

“We should search ourselves where we are right now. Are we in the Nigerian nation of our dream? Can 200 million people say ‘yes’ this is the country which we desire? It is a question for which I don’t have answers,” he said.

He threw a gauntlet at President Muhammadu Buhari, who was represented at the occasion by FCT Minister, Muhammad Musa Bello, and other political players, urging them to address the questions.

He declared: “Governance is not a one man show. It is for us to come together and move the country forward. As Muslims, we know the import of leadership. We should not be shy to ask our leaders to do the just and be just in handling the affairs of our people.”

The Islamic spiritual father, in particular pinpointed leadership failure as the underlying reason why Nigerian youths often embark on the perilous migration to Europe, with many of them perishing in the desert and Mediterranean Sea.

He tasked the political leaders to find solutions to the problems prompting Nigerian youths to leave the country in droves, saying it was the reason why they were elected to office.

According to him, if Nigerian youths are gainfully engaged, they will not be at risk of xenophobic attacks in South Africa, and the urge to migrate abroad would be minimised.

“Our youths should be our pride. I say yes and no. Some of them have excelled all over the world in all fields and have won laurels. At the same time, some involve in criminality like banditry, insurgency and advance fee fraud. What pushed them into this, we must find out and correct”, he maintained.

He also bemoaned government failure to curb the large number of out of school youths in the northern part of the country and expressed regret that about 10 million youths are roaming the streets as Almajiris.

He queried: “What is government doing about this? There was a programme by the previous government of Goodluck Jonathan, which built buildings across the country. What happened to that programme? Government should revive the programme and bring the children on the streets to school. Some of the children are victims of hunger and are looking for food. Islam does not allow begging”.

He described the situation as a time bomb, pointing out that if the Almajiri grow and are uneducated, they will become a menace to the society.

Don't Ever Touch Federal Roads - Buhari Warns State Governors

Don't Ever Touch Federal Roads - Buhari Warns State Governors

MASTER REPORTERS GLOBAL NEWS

Breaking the news from around the globe.

The Minister for Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, has disclosed that state governors should leave federal roads alone.

The Minister stated this on Tuesday while facing a House ad hoc committee investigating abandoned projects in the country from 1999 till date.

The former governor of Lagos State said that the President, Muhammadu Buhari gave the instruction in the face of high debt to states for federal roads constructed by State governors, noting that the President asked him to tell the governors to “leave his (Buhari’s) roads alone.”

He said, “The states submitted a bill of almost a trillion naira when President Buhari was elected. He asked us to work out what was their entitlement and all of that.

“Ultimately, the BPP (the Bureau of Public Procurement) certified about N44bn – I don’t remember the exact amount now – except for two states; I think Cross River and…there’s another state. They didn’t have the documents at the time, which we have sent back to the President. But the decision to pay those inherited debts, including the ones I contracted as Governor of Lagos, was with the caveat that I should tell the governors to leave his (Buhari’s) roads alone. Those were the directives; I was not the one that took the decision.

“Tell them not to fix my roads again if they’re going to claim compensation. If you want to fix it and not ask for compensation, send me what you want to do. But if you want compensation, go and mind your business while I mind my business because I have inherited enough debts!’”

APC Must Win Anambra Governorship Election Come 2021 - Ngige Vows

MASTER REPORTERS GLOBAL NEWS

Breaking the news from around the globe.

Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, has dispelled rumours that he was planning to contest the Anambra governorship election in 2021.

The minister who was at Obosi, Idemili Local Government Area of the state, said he would be too old to contest in the state’s governorship election.

Denying the claims, he said: “That is not possible again. By 2021, I will be too old for that. So, you can see with me that, that is no longer possible.”

“APC was in top preparation for the 2021 governorship race.”

” APC Must capture Anambra state in that election as they were fully prepared”

“since I left office as governor of the state in 2006, nothing significant had been added to his achievements in the state”

“I just drove round the state, the only good roads you can ply in Anambra State were those built by me. Others they put after my government had collapsed.

“It has become clear to our people that they need people like us to be happy once more.

“The APC will provide that happiness; we shall provide purposeful and responsive governance to our people once more in 2021.”

“We have no zoning arrangement in APC, but I think the most ideal thing to do is to allow Anambra South Senatorial District to produce the next governor of the state for equity sake.

“The APC will work towards getting our governorship candidate from that district in 2021; unless we could not find a formidable candidate from the area.”

You Will Still Be Defeated In Appeal Court - Oshiomhole Tells Atiku, PDP

You Will Still Be Defeated In Appeal Court - Oshiomhole Tells Atiku, PDP

MASTER REPORTERS GLOBAL NEWS

National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Adams Oshiomhole says the party is ready for the next round of legal battle with Peoples Democratic Party and its presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.

Oshiohmole made this known when he responded to questions from State House correspondents in Abuja on Thursday.

The PDP had on Wednesday vowed to appeal the judgment of the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal which upheld the election of President Muhammadu Buhari.

However, the APC Chairman maintained that the same facts that gave President Buhari victory at the election tribunal would suffice at the Supreme Court.

He said: “We as a party, we are confident, if it is within the Nigerian law, for PDP to go even to the World Court, we will meet them there. The Supreme Court is Supreme Court of Nigeria not Supreme Court of APC or PDP.

“We are ready to meet them, President Buhari is ready to meet defeated Atiku Abubakar at the Supreme Court and the All Progressives Congress is ready to meet PDP at that court,” he said.

The APC chairman urged Atiku Abubakar and the entire members of the opposition party to forget about what happened at the polls and support Buhari to move Nigeria forward.

According to him, the matter has been resolved and it is time to queue behind the winner and move on.

“Afterall, our winner is the best example that losing one election is not tantamount to the end of your political life. He lost three and today he is president,’’ he added.

The APC chairman thanked the judiciary for doing its job diligently, within the confines of the nation’s electoral act and the laws of the land.

Oshiomhole allegedly accused the opposition PDP of blackmailing every institution in the country in its bid to take over power.

The party leadership stated that they would challenge the ruling at the appeal court however, they were ready to face the supplementary election to retain the Chief Whip of the 9th Senate, Orji Uzor Kalu.

Nwankpa, who spoke on behalf of the delegation also seized the occasion to announce the rejection of the Abia State nominee on the board of the Niger Delta Development Commission,

He said, “We are here today in solidarity with the Chief Whip of the Senate. We are ready to be part of the election even if elections were to be held today.

“We are ready to appeal the judgement.

“There were flaws in the judgment Senator Orji Uzor Kalu’ case as declared by the tribunal. He has not been sacked. The court has not asked that his certificate of return should be withdrawn.

“He remains the Chief Whip of the 9th Senate and all things being equal, nothing would change it.
“What happened was a temporary set back and a distraction to the APC in Abia.”

He said the people of Abia – North were ready at all times to vote the former Governor of the state, nothing that if election was to be held twenty times, Orji Uzor Kalu would be returned.

“We are ready to appeal that judgement. You know how President Muhammadu Buhari’s case was delivered on yesterday (Wednesday) and that further exposed the flaws in Kalu’s case.

The APC chairman, who addressed journalists after the courtesy visit, said the party in the state rejected the NDDC nominee because he was not known to the party. ”

He said, The APC in Abia State rejected the NDDC nominee. He is not known to the party and he cannot represent the interest of our people well.

“We have asked the Abia representatives in the Senate to reject him whenever he appear for screening.”

In the entourage, was the Minister of Mines and Solid Development, Dr. Uche Chukwu Okay who insisted that, Orji Uzor Kalu’s seat was not declared vacant, saying that, “he remains our leader in the party, he remains our leader in the state.

In his remark, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu explained that he would not lose sleep over the development, emphasising that he would win election anytime.

“In Abia North, we are not losing sleep. In Nigeria, if we conduct election in Abia North twenty times, I will win”, the lawmaker insisted.

“The sanctity of Court anywhere in the world is that if one is displeased with judgement, he can approach the upper Court and that is what I will do.

“I was not removed, I wasn’t sacked as reported in the media. The Court didn’t asked someone else to be sworn-in, in my place. We have our votes in tact and since the law allows me to appeal, I will appeal the judgement.”

The lawmaker said Courts don’t award remedies not sought for, hence, he remained the lawmaker while pursuing the case in the Appeal Court.

Tribunal Verdict: PDP Rejects Judgement, Heads To Supreme Court

Tribunal Verdict: PDP Rejects Judgement, Heads To Supreme Court

MASTER REPORTERS GLOBAL NEWS

Breaking the news from around the globe.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expressed shock over the verdict of Presidential Election Petition Tribunal on its case against the election of President Muhammadu Buhari in the Feb. 23 election.

The election petition tribunal on Wednesday dismissed the petition by PDP against the election of Buhari, declaring him as the actual winner of the Feb. 23 presidential election.

In a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, in Abuja on Wednesday, the party said it would appeal the judgment at the Supreme Court.

Ologbondiyan said that the PDP completely rejected the verdict.

He said that the silence across the nation since the judgment was delivered was an indication that the verdict had not fulfilled the desires and expectations of Nigerians.

He, however, encouraged Nigerians to remain calm and not lose hope or surrender to despondency or self-help.

Ologbondiyan said that the lawyers of the party were confident of obtaining justice at the Supreme Court.

“This is more so as the tribunal itself admitted that there are several errors in the judgment,” he said.

The PDP National Chairman, Mr Uche Secondus, said:  “We have heard the judgment, our legal team will study it and we take it from there.”

On his part, the Vice-Presidential Candidate of PDP in the election, Mr Peter Obi, said the judgement was not about Buhari or Atiku but about the practice of democracy in Nigeria and the rule of law.

“It is about the future of our country. It’s about the suffering masses whose future is being toyed with,” he said.
